The “Aww, Screw It” Candidate

The country is still center-right (Obama had to campaign on tax cuts and denied that he wants gun control), but the Republicans have been so horrible lately that too many people just couldn’t bring themselves to reward them with the presidency again. It may seem stupid to put such a shiny object in charge during a time of war, but the Republicans had to get punished some time.

So, in summary, I blame us, Republican voters, since we elected the the sucky Republicans in the first place. Bad us. Ironically, maybe we could have prevented this by being more willing to vote for Democrats in the past.

    Wait. That’s “Up…”

We’ve been sold down the river. My father warned me about this starting 40 years ago. I kid you not. He’s dead now but he knew this day would come.

A Muslim Marxist as President of the United States.

  2. You bite your tongue, Frank. I’m going to pretend you didn’t say that. I agree that the Republicans have blown it lately, but I think when you cool off you’ll remember that the leaders of their party are Pelosi, Schumer, Frank, Reed, and now Obama. We don’t vote Republican because of the Republicans. We vote Republican because the alternative is to elect Democrats. Good grief, man. Lesser of two evils, after all.

    ???

    That would be John McCain.

John, you can “respect Senator Obama” from your Senate seat now. Good night, John.

Oh, and John, we’ll be watching your moves “across the aisle.” You pull that crap again during the next 4 years when you should be FILIBUSTERING Obama’s junk… well, don’t be surprised if you just aren’t taken seriously any more.

    Good bye, John.

  4. Frank,
Don’t blame us (Republican voters) for electing ‘sucky Republicans’ to office. Most of them didn’t become sucky until they were exposed to years of Washington corruption. It took about ten years for the young, hard charging, reformers of Newt Gingrich’s Republican Revolution to become the people they replaced.
We have just been putting up with them ever since because we haven’t had any good alternatives to vote for.
I am sorry to say that in my opinion we deserved this.
    We let it happen.
We need to use this though, we need to get back the spirit of the Regan Revolution. We need to start working on taking back Congress right now. We need to have ready a strong and viable platform and candidates to replace the poor excuse we have there now. And I am talking about the Senators and Representatives of both parties now in office.
If one of those we elect to Congress begins to show signs of becoming a ‘me too, I want mine’ type, we have to vote them out in the next election.
We cannot afford to let them continue just because they have been popular or have done good things. That is all past tense.
We need to keep focusing on the present, on ‘What have you done for us lately?’
Because if we let someone stay there simply because they were a good choice, before, we will be dooming ourselves at some point in the future to end up where we are right now.
We need to show those we elect that we are serious about them having and, more importantly, keeping the conservative reformer mindset.
Ideally the RNC would be involved in this ‘New Revolution’ as well, ready to find and promote replacements for those who have ‘gone native’ in Washington.
Because as soon as we let our Republican representatives become like the Democrats, we let the public begin to think there is no difference, and it doesn’t matter who they vote for.
I guess I will give up the rant for now, though I could ramble for quite a while on my ideas of what we should do to fix our party.
Thanks for the chance to spout.

I had some great opportunities up in the People’s Republik of Massachusetts this cycle – Kerry was running against a retired Delta Force *AND* CIA officer. Yeah, that vote really counted. Kerry waltzed out of the election with 60+% of the vote, despite being about as useful as teats on a bull. The MA state Republikan party is an extension of the local Democrat party, and knows which side the bread is buttered on. My local congresscritter was opposed by a guy who got to spend nearly $100,000 on his election campaign, and my state house and senate reps ran completely unopposed (If either of you read this: yeah, I was the guy who wrote in “a head of mouldy cabbage” instead of voting for you).

I’m moving back to Civilization as soon as it’s humanly possible.

  6. Republicans might try going back to truly Conservative-Constitution based policies and values. The “sucky” republicans [small “r” deliberate] are the flip side of the Liberal compact. Why is the Federal governement in everyone’s business? From the local school board to drunk driving laws to road placement and priorities?
Why is the Fed unsupervised by Congress?
Who in hell decided that unregulated meant totally unwatched?
And the cookie jar wide open, somehow relieves the President and Congress from their few Constitutionally defined roles so that it would take a repeal of human nature to believe no one will lie, cheat, and steal from the citizenry?
Please reread the constitution. It would help to read some of the constitutions of the original 13 states at the end of the 18th century [prior to recent versions].
(Re) Read the writings of Jefferson, Washington, Madison and even the Adams boys.
Of course this election is a reaction.
The middle of the American citizenry lies politically to the right ON AVERAGE TO SUM TOTAL OF POSITIONS. They may not be able to define their discomfort with American global meddling. They may not remember enough civics to understand why they feel deceived by the “conservative” Republicans. But they know enough to make it clear that they don’t like the present course even if the chosen future course maight be worse.
