Illegal immigration is a controversial topic. Though it shouldn’t be.
I’m in favor of immigration. Heck, my ancestors came to this country … before it was a country. They were immigrants. Hundreds of years ago, to be sure, but immigrants, nonetheless.
Same for everyone who calls the U.S. home.
But, today? Yes, I’m all in favor of people immigrating to this country. In fact, there’s an immigration process. Every civilized nation on earth has an immigration process.
It’s illegal immigration that I don’t like.
But so many on the left get their panties in a wad if anyone opposes illegal immigration.
They seem to forget that illegal immigration is … well, illegal. But when did laws matter to them? Unless it’s a law to ban guns. They want them laws followed.
Anyway, they say to let the illegals alone. They’re doing jobs that Americans don’t want.
I don’t doubt it.
But, the L.A. Times reports that over 10% of Californians are out of work.
Unemployment in California shot up to its highest level in nearly 26 years in January, leaving more than 1 in 10 workers without a job.
Figures released Friday show that 79,300 jobs were lost in the state last month, bringing the total number of unemployed to 1,863,000, or 10.1% of the workforce. That’s the highest since the rate touched 10.4% in 1983.
I’ve been out of work. But, I didn’t sit on my ass. I found work.
I worked temporary construction jobs. I’ve worked at temp agencies. I’ve stood in line at the Department of Labor, filling out forms and getting lists of jobs.
I was turned down for some jobs because I was “over-qualified,” which means they figured I’d have worked until I found a better job.
Bottom line is, I didn’t sit on my ass; I went to work. And I found work.
There’s work in California. It might not be pleasant work, but work seldom is.
And, the work might be currently done by an illegal alien.

Turn off the free healthcare and the jobs and illegal immigration goes away. I read a million illegals went back to Mexico due to lack of jobs last year. Only 11 mm more to go.
Moved from my home in southern California to western NY 3 years ago. Amazingly, the lawns get mowed, restaurants have dishwashers, hotels & hospitals have housekeeping staff, and plenty of food service workers abound without employing illegal immigrants. The argument in Southern Cali was if illegals were forced to go home to Mexico – no one would do the more menial labor jobs. Not true.
California has 10% unemployment because they are taxing all the businesses till they go out of state.
And I’m all for legal immigration too, but I also think you shouldn’t have to hire an immigration lawyer to understand the paperwork. They need to make it simple to immigrate, so that there’s nothing to be gained by immigrating illegally.

Now it’s just another Democrat run cesspool, as over taxed and broke as the the other Democrat run cesspools such as New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois, etc. but with better weather and an almost professional class of money grubbing whiners and snivelers constantly asking for more. Unfriendly to business (which is the life blood of any economy) and with a population made up of almost as many people with their hands out as there are working taxpayers to fill those hands. It has an insatiable appetite for money, and bleeds it’s taxpayers for as much as it can get and then tells them it needs more. Just take a close look at California and you can see exactly where this country is headed.

They have taken graft / corruption / nepotism / nimby to artistic heights no one sane could have ever foreseen. …and studies show that people don’t find jobs until their unemployment benefits are about over. So, extending unemployment benefits will simply keep people unemployed longer. I own a fast food restaurant, and I’ve never had so many applications as this past two months. Work is work, and work is honorable.
Its so true, you may be over-qualified and not get hired for middle of the road jobs, but McDonalds won’t turn anyone away, they don’t care about turnover that much. Picking fruit – same there.
I would bet that if you took out illegals (about 15 million of them) that our unemployment would be near 3%. Underemployment would certainly be higher, but a job is better than no job, and unless you are a Liberal, better than welfare.

California is the canary in the coal mine, and it’s dying. The point however is that the Obama administration is going to learn nothing from it. They’re going to take the entire USA down the same shaft as the canary, and at warp speed.

I worked a full-time job (as a fry-cook no less) 10pm- 5:30am Mon.- Sat, AND went to a community college FULL-TIME for a solid year. My job was 2 miles from my apt., and school was 3.5 miles from apt. in the other direction. I was fresh out of the Marine Corp. and my only mode of transportation was a 10 speed bicycle. Did I mention I live in Indiana? Riding a 10 speed in the snow is neither fun, nor terribly effective at times, but I endured. NO-ONE ELSE was going to care for me!

I was a GOOD cub scout (“Be prepared”), and refined some specialty skills in my time in service. My powder is all dry, and my arsenal grows by the day. I don’t advocate ANY type of uprising, but I think I see one coming anyway, and I for one will be ready.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION is a HUGE problem in this country today, but not the only one. Out of control spending by congress, “bailing-out” banks and the auto industries, repealing the Bush tax cuts, and the list goes on. Washington does not seem to want to represent their constituents anymore.
RESPONSIBLE people, who are not AFRAID of work, are what has kept this nation great for more than 200 years. I just hope I’m not witnessing the beginning of the end of this great “experiment in democracy”.

I want immigration to be reformed in the following way:
1) Anyone who isn’t on a restriction list (terrorists etc) can come in
2) Anyone coming in must present identification. We will take finger prints and a DNA sample
3) Immigrants must report in regularly so we can keep tabs
4) Able-bodied citizens who have never held a grown-up job by the age of thirty and still live with room mates or parents will be deported
That last part is important in order to maintain balance

See, the problem is we get the issue wrong. Its not really about illegal immigration, per se, but the black market for labor. Why a black market? the same reason all black markets exist: to get around regulation. in this particular case, to get around the minimum wage. Now, of course in creating a black market, most legal residents want nothing to do with the black market for labor, so they are overwhelmingly illegal immigrants, but that is what this is really about: getting around onerous regulation.
Just remember that little bit of hypocrisy the next time the dems claim to be for regulation. they built their own loophole.

Perhaps since we have a major illegal invasion problem, and since Obama is all about creating more government workers, and since we have many people (especially in California) who are out of work, the answer is simple:
Hire out-of-work Californians to round up and deport illegal invaders. Once millions are deported, without the massive drain of illegals California’s economy will rebound and the newly hired border agents can return to jobs in the private sector.
California might not be able to afford to pay a large border security force right now.
But if they were willing to legally deputize volunteers – on a spare time, bring your own gear, set your own schedule basis … the results might be interesting.
