A report from the National Bureau of Economic Research says that a “calorie tax” would help curb obesity in America.
Great idea! And then we could use the money to fund food stamps for the people who can’t afford their grocery bills anymore!

how about we don’t give food stamps or other supplements to anyone whose BMI is over 27?
Incentives, both positive and negative, to control behavior is stupid. Be direct. Make everyone gone 3 times a day to their government provided food dispensary and have the government provide them with a specific meal that meets all their health and nutritional requirements. Close all other sources of food distribution in the country. There, job accomplished. No need for fancy tax codes and constant nannying. The state becomes your mother and you will eat what is put in front of you and like so help me mister or you go to bed without your supper!
How about a stupidity tax …and we sign up all government employees first?
They already have a stupidity tax – it’s called the lottery.
