My best Googling turns up the source as “a post on the Pierce Country Tribune website tracing the original source to Judge Phillip B Gilliam of Denver, Colorado, in a letter published on December 17, 1959.”
I’m sure you will be amazed (no you won’t) when your child, whatever age, comes to you complaining about being bored, how fast they will be unbored when you suggest for them to mow the lawn, wash the dishes, clean their room, weed the garden, wash the car, etc. It won’t take but an attosecond for them to go from bored to irritated and put upon.
