At a University of Chicago event, Republican Senator Rand Paul said of the Department of Education: “I don’t think you’d notice if the whole department was gone tomorrow.”
What a horrible thought! If we lost the DoE, how would we keep our schools dumbed down?
In most big cities like Chicago I don’t think it would be too difficult of a task for local school boards to keep the dumbing down in place. Smaller towns might be a different story.
That could be President Ronald Reagan’s biggest failure. He wanted to get rid of the Department of Education, since he knew that the Constitution explicitly reserves education to the States (and transportation, too, now that I think about it).
Evidently, the head of the teachers’ union in Chicago is considering running for mayor of Chicago, which should guarantee a landslide for Rahm Emanuel.
