[High Praise! to Neatorama]
Possibly the only state-related fun fact that I’ve never discussed, so here’s the map for you Nukers to bicker over the accuracy of:

And no, I don’t know what “durian” is either. Sound like an ingredient in synthetic motor oil.

Durian is an Asian fruit that smells like a mix of gasoline and rotten flesh. Really! There used to be an ice cream parlor in San Francisco that offered durian ice cream. (I had some once.) Reportedly, they kept it in a separate freezer.
I don’t know how rigorous their methodology was, but is it possible that the word “cod” showed up so frequently in Massachusetts tweets because of a certain Cape?
“Entree”? Come on Arkansas! Are potluck dinners a big thing there? At least on twitter.
Not surprised by Texas. Probably discussing the outrageous price per lb being charged for brisket. It’s freaking criminal right now.
…And remember new and improved Tide now contains the secret ingredient durian, thats why four out of five moms recommend Tide over Brand X.
Durian is best kept frozen, due to the extremely pungent smell at room temperature. It is the skunk of the fruit world!
Based on the nasty smell, I was surprised to find I like the taste. To me, the raw fruit eaten just after thawing tastes like really strong garlic ice cream. It has a smooth, almost avocado-like, texture. Strange stuff.
Thank you Kentucky. I knew someone had to be talking about it.
I’ve lived in Iowa for about four and a half years now, and I have yet to hear anybody here talking about cloves.
As a born-n-bred NuYawkur, I suspect the discussions involving prunes may not simply include grocery lists and menu items.
Is there an American version f the Monty Python troupe that can create a song: “Grits grits grits grits, grits grits grits grits, …”
Grits? Who is PA is talking about grits?
My wife is from the Philippines, and she and her family love durian. Rich creamy mouth feel, but smells just like garbage. Best description of it I have ever heard is “eating the richest custard ever, in the filthiest gas station restroom ever.” It’s a tropical fruit – popular in the Phils, Thailand, Singapore, and that part of the world. Why Maine, of all places?????
Speaking for Connecticut, I believe the twitter reference is from our more “urban areas” trying to find their car, which they lentil the bi@*h came back wif the drugs.
What’s dem “grit” tings you talk about? Up ‘er we all live on pasties an venison, ey.
What the heck is flan?
Sauerkraut? Ick.
But I find “yolk” a pretty odd ‘most talked about food’ for Obamaland. What would Michelle say?
