So, do people really gather and sing “Auld Lang Syne” on New Year’s Eve? I never have. Always been a quiet evening at home. Well, unless the Army had me away from home on New Year’s, which only happened to me a few times. Still, I’ve never done the whole gather ’round and sing a song with almost-English words.
Anything in particular on your mind? Something you want to share with the group? It’s Sunday Night Open Thread.
Who wants to start?

Things go in cycles. Auld Lang Sine.
My Walrus Message For 2018 (To All):
Hillary is not president.
{“Should annulled arraignments be forgot . . . “}
Indeed she’s not president, and I’ll hoist a glass to that. In fact I’m so happy about that fact that I’ve filled said glass with a dram of my finest booze…18 year old Glenlivet.
I’d say 4 out of the last 6 new years eve I’ve been asleep by midnight. Once you’ve seen it a few dozens times, you don’t really need to see it again.
Happy New Year to the greatest bunch of fellow travelers. May 2018 be healthy and successful to everyone.
Same to you walrus and to all my fellow posters here. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
This is indeed a wonderful place to hang out with the best people. A Happy New Year to all.
Quiet evening at home… And still sang Auld Lang Syne.
First time I’ve been with people who knew the words
I guess I’ll close out 2017 with some usless facts that everyone should know…why do cartoon characters wear gloves??
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R3cvbLsbAk
So they wear gloves. The bigger question is why they rarely wear pants and why haven’t female cartoon characters filed sexual harassment law suits?
They don’t file suits because they don’t know Gloria Allred’s phone number.
What’s on my mind is that it’s -18 F here right now, which breaks the previous record of -12 F for January 1 here. There haven’t been a lot of days since I moved here that I wished that I had stayed in Silicon Valley. I’m feeling like that today, though.
J. D. Salinger, one of our greatest authors and also one of the strangest men ever to live, was born January 1, 1919, in New York City. Don’t be a phony today.
