Wrrrr, do you sell internet currency in MMOs for a living?
Wait, no, you mean I get cash from the government that I don’t have to return?
Oh yeah, it’s my friggin money anyway.
Therin lies the problem. They know everybody likes that. That’s how they get votes. “I vote for the guys that will geive me the most” is the attitude that will turn the US into a socialist wellfare state. They need to quit appropriating and spending so much money in the first place. Just wait Frank, your my age. In about 10 years, all of the baby boomers will start complaining that they have so little (due to a lack of retirement planning), yet you have so much (because you worked your ass off and made “exhorbanent profits”), therefore, the government should take some of yours (wheather you need it or not) and spread it around to them.
Well, unless you make under $75,000 individually or $150,000 jointly you don’t get anything. But, I guess that means I’m just an evil rich person, not a hard working middle class American. Gotta love that income redistribution. Take $600 of my taxes and give it to two families that made less than $3000 all year, which means that it was too hard for them to even get a job at McDonalds for 20hrs a week.
Let’s see…I make $75K, so my (federal) taxes this year are about $15K. I live in Silicon Valley, so the People’s Republic of Mexifornia takes a little less than $5K. That leaves me with $55K. I pay $2500 to rent a crappy apartment (and consider myself lucky that it is not more) since I don’t make anywhere near enough to afford the $750K average price of a 1500sq.ft. postage stamp townhome. That leaves me with $25K. Yeah…I’m rich. Stupid democrats.
Yes, much fairer to give income tax rebates to some people, including those who didn’t pay income taxes in the first place, rather than to everyone who actually paid income taxes. Never mind the fact that they shouldn’t have extorted the money from us in the first place.
At least the Edwards/Huckabee class-warfare aficionados will be happy! Comrade JoeB is probably wetting himself at this very moment….
They’re not just giving us back our own money. They’re giving us back money that we haven’t earned yet. And they’re giving more of it to people who haven’t earned it.
And an actual quote I heard from Nancy Pelosi this afternoon (Italics mine): “Our hope is that this will stimulate the economy. If it doesn’t, well, more will come.”
FROM WHERE?! Do they think they can just print more? I seriously don’t know where these people’s brains are. Eaten by monkeys, I suppose.
Yeah, $600 would be nice, but I’d gladly pay that much if we got to use the Democrats as shark bait instead. Or range targets, or crash dummies, or farm feed, or anything else that makes them dead.
Here’s an idea for the Dems: Why not just let us keep it in the first place? That would save money by not having to print a few million checks, postage, etc… oh yeah, wait… that would be expecting the government to be efficient. My bad.
The beaurocracy must expand to meet the needs of the growing beaurocracy…
My favorite is the quote I heard on talk radio: that the Democrats wanted to put the money in the hands of those most likely to spend it the fastest…priceless. I can’t figure out if I am going to get anything or not. Using gross income, I’m out, using adjusted gross, I’m in. Using taxable income, in even more. Now there’s a system for you! Vote Hillary…at least the end will be quicker and more painful. Where’s Fred when you need him?
Stimulus until tax time when they’ll ask you for 30% 0f it back. The last check was taxed… won’t this be? People earning 75K and 150K in households get the money…please.
Some thoughts on the “rebate”:
1) If “tax rebates” are good for the economy now, why aren’t they good for the economy every other year?
2) A “rebate” is defined as giving something back. How can somebody get a federal tax rebate if they didn’t pay any federal taxes?
3) Most people haven’t filed federal income taxes yet. Why not just let people calculate the “rebate” into their 2007 returns? Include a mechanism for people to apply for the rebate if they either have already paid, or forget to include it when they file their return. The administrative costs for such a mechanism couldn’t possibly be more expensive than what they have now. Is the problem that the deadbeats would be less likely to get their $300 checks?
4) The AP article says that Charlie Rangel and Ted Kennedy are mad at Pelosi for backing off the increased food stamp payments in exchange for the $300 rebate to non-taxpayers. “I do not understand, and cannot accept, the resistance of President Bush and Republican leaders to including an extension of unemployment benefits for those who are without work through no fault of their own,” Rangel said.
How about we scrap the $300 non-rebates, and just extend benefits to those out of work through no fault of their own. Be sure to include a mechanism to insure that the unemployment really is “through no fault of their own.” Thus, no payments for anyone who squandered their educational opportunities when they were younger. No payments for anybody fired for poor performance. No payments for anyone living in a town where fast food restaurants or construction labor finders are looking for help. And no payments for Communications majors.
Yes, what the heck? Soooo…they don’t want to extend the tax cuts, but they do want to give us rebates… Frank, you just can’t write this kind of material.
Well, being married with three kids, I’m due for $2100. Sounds pretty nice. I am, however, at that level where, although I do have taxes withheld, I don’t really pay any substantial amount. But that’s probably the case for most families that are covered by this.
Don’t forget dear little Hillary “I’ve got a million ideas; America can’t afford them” Clinton. This was probably one of them. Why are we doing anything anyway? The economy is recovering and stimulating itself quite nicely, thank you, without tacking another $180-billion to the deficit. And our dear Republcans and the President are all going along with this with big smiles on their faces. What a bunch of pandering crap!
There are a number of times that I voted for my candidate; there are a number of times that I have voted against the other guy. There are a number of times that I have voted with enthusiasm; there are times that I have voted in wrath.
Never before have I faced the prospect that I might be ashamed of my vote.
And our dear Republcans and the President are all going along with this with big smiles on their faces. What a bunch of pandering crap!
boosh has been the wrst sukkster-in-cheef from day 1. iz not noo thng.
I cannot believe Washington thinks couples who make more than $150,000 are rich. My husband and I make a little more than that but we struggle to save money with 2 kids in college (which the cost of college is killing us and draining us financially). The cost of fuel for our kids and us is killing us as well. The reality is that they should have made the cap on couples higher say $300,000 and above based on today’s economy, cost of things, college, etc. We pay a lot of taxes and can’t seem to be able to save enough for retirement. We had to pull money from our 401K to help with expenses and will end up with a tax bill this year–again draining us…We are the middle class not the rich.

No, that’s not entirely true. It’s just that he & Cheney were willing to step up & FIGHT, a concept so lost on the left that the idea of fighting for true American values (which are the core of modern day freedom) is just too scary; sacrifice means more than a lot of bold talk. There has yet to be a Democrat president within the last 80 years who understands that.
Why do you think that is?

Of course they can print more money! What, you think those printing presses were getting worn out or something? They’re fine, just ask Bernanke. Hyperinflation here we come!
Clay, I’m not the poster in #33, but I understand where they’re coming from. The cost of living is considerably lower in Arkansas than it is in most of the country.
The house we’re currently living in, in Colorado, would go for less than half of the cost in Oklahoma. Property taxes go up accordingly, and so do costs for services like child care, because everyone has to factor in those same costs. During the summer we pay as much for two-day-a-week school for my son as I would expect to pay for a four-day-a-week school back in Oklahoma, for instance.
The higher housing cost factors into just about every service – even hiring a babysitter for a night out here ends up costing serious money. And I don’t know any businesses, even fast food, that get away with paying minimum wage to anyone but high schoolers – and those are the slacker-facial-piercing-mohawk-wearing teenagers. Heck, even the sign twirlers make ten bucks an hour. When the minimum wage gets bumped up, so does everyone else’s pay.

I wasn’t trying to imply that the poster in #33 was jet-setting around in Limos all day long. But thier doing O.K. I’m sure the cost of living where they are is higher than here, but its not 5 times as much, that I can promise you…. Poster #5 has it right. I’m all for a 10% flat tax across the board. Nothing is more fair than that. forget this fair tax crap, a flat tax effects everyone the same. If you make 20K a year or 20 Mil. a year, you should pay the same percentage!!!
It’s just that he & Cheney were willing to step up & FIGHTIt’s just that he & Cheney were willing to step up & FIGHT</I.

Now if they’d just pass the fair tax…
The fair tax requires much more than “just passing.” Much more than the current establishment will ever be willing to do. Sorry.
Why we can’t just have a 10% percent flat tax? It’d be much simpler than the stupid fair tax.
Therin lies the problem. They know everybody likes that. Wasn’t this originally Bush’s plan? Except that he wanted $800 single/$1600 married rather than the $600/$1200 the Dems are proposing?
Giving you back your money is what you really mean.
No, anonymous, Frank doesn’t pay taxes. Hahahaha. He’s getting YOUR money.
I kinda like the Democrats when they’re being dragged behind the boat as shark bait.
I kinda like the Democrats when they’re hanging from the gallows after their trials for treason.

That would be “Parkinson’s Law,” Raving. It’s alive and well and living in America. C. Northcote Parkinson, however, is long gone, GRHS.
Weren’t they the same group who were against Bush doing this in ’01? They said that it wasn’t going to stimulate anything, if I remember correctly…
