  1. I REMEMBER:
I had finished a midnight shift (911 dispatcher) and was going back in for an O.T. 15:00-23:00 shift. Around 09:00 my nephew called and asked if I was watching the news. I replied, “Nooo,…. I’m sleeping. I go back at 3.” He told me a plane had crashed into the WTC. My first reaction was to turn on the news, but like most people I assumed it was a Cessna type plane, so I figured I would get some more sleep and see the reports when I got to work.
By the time I got to work, they were waiting for WTC building 5 to fall. I just COULD NOT believe what I was watching!! The images were so overpowering, as we all know, that they almost suspended reality. This could not be true. Those must be stunt men jumping out of those buildings. The director will call “Cut” and everyone will get cleaned up and head to the catering trucks…Those aren’t real folks who just— went to work today.

When I left the P.D. (here on the CT shoreline) at the end of my shift, there was a strong acrid smell in the air. That smell was present for at least 3 days. It smelled of war, it smelled of death, it smelled of evil. I will ALWAYS remember these things as if they were last year.

    I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER.
