Mirror Universe Obama
Since Frank mentioned Obama with an Evil Spock beard:
I can’t help wondering what the Mirror Universe Obama would be like.
I’m thinking he’d be like this awesome mash-up of the Founding Fathers, with Thomas Jefferson’s love of liberty, Patrick Henry’s fiery rhetoric, George Washington’s military acumen, and the Rumsfeld Strangler’s violent murdering of liberals.

I think he’d be like a mix of Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater and Fred Thompson. So powerful and persuasive is he that communists and socialists everywhere just give up and beg forgiveness from every free man and woman they meet.

We passed into an alternate
universe in nov. 2008,
so this would be like an alternate/alternate universe,right? Would it be like, you know a mirror/mirror/mirror universe? Like, you know,in a barber shop, where mirror images of mirror images curve into infinity? I mean like a ten to the tenth power or something, wow kind of hard to wrap my mind around this. I’d better post this at Daily Kos where real intellectuals can answer my questions.

Harvey, you are (as always ) correct. Evil Spock was a fictional charater, Evil Lenin was a historic fact.
I couldn’t help but make the subliminal leap.
Burmashave, maybe a universe of Black Holes…dark matter, seems appropriate when thinking about the current administration…makes my head hurt also.

Stephen – Not quite. In Bizarro World, everything is opposite. In the Mirror Universe, all the physical objects are the same, people look the same, and people have more or less their same personality traits, but the socio-economic order of things is different.
Since Earthlings had an intergalactic empire by 2300 AD, I’m guessing that, in Mirror America, people didn’t forget the principles of liberty and free commerce upon which their country was founded, which enabled them to find a way to make space travel profitable sooner, and space travel technology advanced on a Moore’s Law (doubling every two years) trajectory.
Mirror Obama would still have the traits of being handsome, charming, politically-ambitious and a smooth talker, but the only way he could get elected in this ultra-free societey is to fake center, then swing wide for increased freedom and capitalism after he won the election.
Oddly, Mirror Obama would also have run on a theme of “Change”, since Mirror Bush would’ve been wildly unpopular. I mean, come on… 8 years, and only 2 tax cuts? What a commie!

Idahoser – Mirror Chicago would still be a huge industrial shipping mecca where land-based resources meet water-based transportation, except that’d it’d be a free port like Hong Kong.
And Mirror Hong Kong would still be a free port, too, since Mirror America would’ve either conquered, annexed, or bought the entire planet by now.

I’m not sure I understand this notion of a “mirror” universe as opposed to an “opposite” one. After all, it’s an established scientific fact that we live in Basil’s “Bizarro World.” The real question is: does the principle of “invariance” apply? Is the whole universe as bizarre as here?
