Racist teabaggers yelling racist slurs … oh, wait

Posted on March 21, 2010 5:33 am

I was going to title this post “Lying bastards lie” but I changed my mind. Anyway…

The big media are reporting that members of the Congressional Black Caucus encountered racist slurs when they walked past protesters.

ABC reported:

Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., said that as he left the Cannon House Office Building with Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., a leader of the 1960s civil rights movement, some among the crowd chanted “the N-word, the N-word, 15 times.” Both Carson and Lewis are black. Lewis spokeswoman Brenda Jones also said the incident occurred.

“It was like going into the time machine with John Lewis,” Carson said.

CBS had this:

Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., told a reporter that as he left the Cannon House Office Building with Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., a leader of the civil rights era, some among the crowd chanted “the N-word, the N-word, 15 times.” Both Carson and Lewis are black, and Lewis spokeswoman Brenda Jones also said that it occurred.

“It was like going into the time machine with John Lewis,” said Carson, a large former police officer who said he wasn’t frightened but worried about the 70-year-old Lewis, who is twice his age. “He said it reminded him of another time.”

Here’s what MSNBC had:

The Tea Party protests got ugly today.

African-American Congressman John Lewis (D-GA), a protege of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who helped organize the March on Washington, went to the House floor today to tell Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) that a Tea Party protester called him a “n—–.”

The New York Times:

And while most of the invective was directed at the health care bill itself, several House members said there was an ugly tone to comments made by some demonstrators against three black lawmakers: Representatives André Carson of Indiana, Emanuel Cleaver II of Missouri and John Lewis of Georgia, all Democrats.

An aide to Mr. Lewis, a leader of the civil rights movement in the 1960s, said that as he walked to the Capitol, Mr. Lewis was called racial slurs.

The Washington Post carried this:

Protesters outside the Capitol hurled epithets at Reps. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and Andre Carson (D-Ind.) as they left the building after President Obama delivered an 11th-hour speech on behalf of the health care bill. Carson told reporters that protesters yelled “kill the bill,” then used a racial epithet to describe Carson and Lewis, who is a revered figure on both sides of the aisle.

They all tell the same story.

And that’s the thing: it’s just a story. It’s not true.

How do I know?

I’ve seen the video.

Tip: Midnight Blue < Marooned In Marin

Not a racial epithet to be found.

I’m waiting for the excuses as to why video of the event doesn’t match reports of the event.

Perhaps they suffer the same thing Maureen Dowd suffers. She heard “boy” when it wasn’t said. The Congressional Black Caucus seems to hear even worse things that aren’t said.

I suppose if someone won’t make you a victim, you have to make yourself one.

Update:
Sarah In Italy sent word that there are two other videos, neither of which contain evidence of any racial slurs:

I probably shouldn’t tell you this, Basil. We were indeed broadcasting the N-Word chant on an ultra-high frequency, kinda like in “Independence Day”. Only blacks and maybe Jeff Goldblum can hear it. Keep it to yourself, OK?

  2. seanmahair says:

I bet the MSM hate those little flip cameras. How can one continue to lie and obfuscate when people have video of what really happened? I hope Rep Lewis and his associates can get over the ugly feeling of the Tea Partiers because once Congress passes this piece of socialist blivitry or jack%&ery, it’s going to get a lot uglier.

They thought people were angry before, well they are going to see truly “MAD” people now. Good luck with that Washington. I’ll pray for you.

  3. NO_MO_BAMA says:

Maybe someone was listening to some rap “music”?
CNN “health care protests turn ugly, more on that in a moment….”
I waited at least 2 commercials..not a word, not even an N word.
Lies, damned lies, and statistics CNN

  4. NO_MO_BAMA says:

wow, they just did it AGAIN! You’d think that if it’s such an important “event”, they’d actually say something about it.
They say on their site, Barney Frank was also called the F word, (fat?) “I’m disappointed,” Frank said. “There’s an unwillingness to be civil.” This coming from someone who compared someone’s intelligence to a dining room table when she dared question him
A CNN producer overheard the word “faggot” yelled at Frank several times in the lobby of the Longworth building. Frank said he heard someone yell “homo” at him.
How do you confuse the two?

  5. 5of7 says:

But if people really had chanted (literally) “The – N – word” or just “N – N – N”, that would Ok? Sounds like a scene from Blazing Saddles or maybe Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

  6. BDeev says:

Uh, the video shows the Congressmen walking away from the Capital. All the accusations involve behavior as they were walking towards the Capital and the Barney Frank incident was indoors.

  7. MarkoMancuso says:

Basil, you are racist for being ignorant of the CBC’s ability to read cracker minds!

  8. ccoffer says:

Brown skinned Klansmen like John Lewis, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackass use that word all the time. They use it when referring to people like Clarence Thomas. Other than that, pretty much no one uses the word. Hell, most people are too chicken-sh*t to even spell it, let alone say it out loud.

The left is populated by the absolute scum of this earth. I wish them ill.

[Edited. To other commenters: There is no hypocrisy from ccoffer over the "too chicken to spell it" phrase; concerns should be directed to me. - B.]

  9. mvc2k says:

The capitol police had the walkways down from the capitol cordoned off so congress people could use them. These are not narrow walkways but 20+ foot wide staircases (see them clearly on maklin’s page – http://michellemalkin.com/2010/03/20/day-of-defiance-nationwide-protests-as-slaughter-house-rushes-through-demcare/ ).

While most of the congressman had the intelligence to slink through their underground tunnels to their offices, these guys apparently decided to make a very public exit from the capitol down into the the area where the crowd was. Classic liberal setup. They did not count on all the cell video refuting their bogus claims. What maroons!

  10. DeckApe says:

I have long suspected that politicians hear voices the rest of us dont.

On the bright side I’m told that today is Alien Abduction Day. Maybe those voices are from the Mother Ship, and we are about to be saved…Or maybe it is just an ICE raid… Or,?

  11. mvc2k says:

Oh – as to when & where the incidents occured – Barney Frank’s was indoors but no one else heard it. The spitting incident supposedly happened on the way in – and they say an arrest was made BUT capitol police spokesman said “We arrested no one today”. The “N_! N_! N_!” thing happened on the way out – which is where the video was from. I suspect all the reports really are embellishments on the walk out.

  12. NO_MO_BAMA says:

    BDeev says:

Uh, the video shows the Congressmen walking away from the Capital. All the accusations involve behavior as they were walking towards the Capital…

as he left the Cannon House Office Building

Thankfully, all incidents involving Barney Frank are indoors other than his…”friend” growing pot in Maine that he claims he didn’t know was there

  13. EnemyoftheState says:

I agree that the N-word is highly charged and should not be used in polite company, but when someone calls me a Nerd I just take that as a reflection of their immaturity and poor education.

  14. Son of Bob says:

Same old play book. If you’re black or gay and you tell the “mainstream” media a story they’ll run with it. And, no one ever gets an apology from Al Sharpton or any of the lapdog teleprompter readers after Tawana Brawley, or any of the other stories the “mainstream” media vigorously report without ever investigating.

  15. Crusty says:

To a liberal, imagination and reality are the same thing. If you can dream it up, that makes it true!

  16. NO_MO_BAMA says:

    Nice Try.
One cameraman in the middle of an OBNOXIOUS crowd proves
    ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

  17. Heston says:

    Basil,

Have you sent this to Drudge? They have a news tip thing in the left column near the bottom

  18. TootyFrooty says:

We need to start holding congressmen TRULY accountable. What do I mean? READ ON!!!!

-1- register democrat and vote in the primary for the better of the 2 democrats. In the general election vote libertarian or republican ( as long as its not a rino )

-2- start keeping a database of ousted losers from congress. If they get a job in private industry make it unbearable for the hiring company. If they try to get a job in government do our best to prevent this.

-3- Keep an addresses in said database so we can flood them with spam / junk mail to their house / print fake license plates and speed past traffic cameras Etc……

None of these guys lives should be easy. I do not suggest anything violent in fact that is not sustainable anyway.

We need to take the profit for politicians out of government. In general we need to associate a cost function with government such that when a guy finally retires they almost always look back and say “you know….the cost was just not worth the benefit”…………..ONLY THEN WILL WE HAVE LIMITED GOVERNMENT.

  19. sucker punch says:

You think this video proves anything? It was probably 1/10 of the distance of their entire walk though the crowd. Find someone with a video from the start of their walk to the end vs. cherry picking snippet that helps you make your argument. Your site is all about spreading FUD – fear, uncertainty and doubt. Silly Tea Baggers.

  20. Burmashave says:

It’s a typical leftist tactic: lie, rinse, repeat. Sooner or later, the lie sticks. Today’s story only works because the lamestream media has already laid the groundwork by accusing Tea Party members of latent racism.

I have no good solution. Punch a hippie.

  21. LMAO says:

It is funny that anyone would think that this video proves anything at all.

The left the Cannon House and walked to the Capitol. These vids are of the walk from Cannon to Capital.

“Rallies outside the Capitol are typically orderly, with speeches and well-behaved crowds. Saturday’s was different, with anger-fueled demonstrators surrounding members of Congress who walked by, yelling at them.” – I didn’t see anyone surrounding them – they stayed on both sides of the road/walkways.

“Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., told a reporter that as he left the Cannon House Office Building with Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., a leader of the civil rights era, some among the crowd chanted “the N-word, the N-word, 15 times.” – Doesn’t say immediately outside the doors – said among the crowd.

“Sgt. Kimberly Schneider of the U.S. Capitol Police said in an e-mail later: “We did not make any arrests today.” – no arrests…
