Misha – what do you mean, 160 grains? Sounds like .40 cal to me… which was invented for grandmothers and girl scouts who couldn’t handle .45 ACP. Nothing wrong with grandmothers and girl scouts, and I applaud S&W for developing a round with good hitting power that allows almost everyone to use a respectable handgun.
But if 160 grains is good, 230 is better. And to stay with the .45 motif, I just ordered a Marlin 1895G, should get it next week. Then we’ll see what 405 grains will do. Next black bear that comes round my house is going to regret it – just not for very long. But bears are pretty smart, to judge from the Hanna-Barbera nature documentaries of my youth, and will probably stay away until I go overseas again.
Man, that’s why I love this site – every topic eventually comes round to firearms. That almost never happens on NPR.
