The only thing preventing this from happening more often is that most people are halfway decent human beings. But it only takes a few smart criminals to totally screw things up for a company.
My husband does this for a living (District L.P.). His words: “If they weren’t so dumb, we’d never catch them.” Because no one in the store wants to offend a customer, no one prioritizes security over sales. And if you only knew what the employees do: 80% to 85% of loss is caused by internal issues, including outright theft, deliberate under-ringing of goods, and unauthorized discounts. One employee brought shopping lists to work, filled bags with the goods, called each friend with the time they could pick up the goods and when delivering, pocketed $50 without ringing anything up. And don’t even get me started about the complete lack of security against splodeydopes; it doesn’t even enter the minds of management.
Interesting that these are some of the same people who will blame the Bush administration for not supplying them with “high paying jobs.” It’s not their fault that they are barely intelligent enough to breathe. They should make more money anyway.
