  1. I think you mean southern vs. northern monkeys with regards to spinning.
There are two types of Old World monkeys; those that carry and those that are carried.
There are two types of New World monkeys; those that refuse to carry and those that want to be carried.

  2. You are, of course, talking about the spin cycle?
You have reminded me of the Monkeys skit from The Kids in The Hall.
“…if these monkeys ever got out, they’d be running this town inside of a week!”
Monkeys have no discipline. They all need to be spanked….
…um, well you know what I mean!

  3. I did lots of reading on this topic four years back or so. NW monkeys all live in trees & are small. They’re not much like OW monkeys. There are two main kinds of NW monkey: the marmoset/ tamarin branch and the spider/ squirrel/ howler / owl/ capuchin monkey branch.
Marmosets & tamarins are barely monkeys at all: they can’t change their facial expressions, and they don’t have opposable thumbs. Marmosets also have an inefficient body thermostat (it’s almost a cold-blooded mammal if you can believe that).
The other branch of NW monkey is more OW monkey-like (i.e. they’re smart and can break into stuff). Except that they can swing by their tails which OW monkeys can’t (although apes relearnt how to do this with their arms).
Also NW monkey noses are flat. OW monkeys have noses that push the nostrils to face the lips – like apes and humans.
