Well, Naked Gun director and almost every conservative actor in Hollywood are opening their attempt at a right-leaning movie today, American Carol. I haven’t seen any reviews for it yet, but you can be pretty certain the mainstream reviewers are going to hate it. I’m probably going to go see it, though (but not this weekend as I have other things to focus on).
Anyway, really hope it doesn’t suck. If it does well, then we can be certain we’ll see more conservative focused movies in the future. Ooh… I should write a screenplay…

since i have kids, I will be going to the other right wing movie coming out today . . .
Why YES YOU SHOULD, Frank.
Chronicles of Dubya would make a FAR better use of 90 minutes than anything Oliver Stone’s fertile imagination (and by “fertile” I mean “totally full of crap – and not just any crap – the crap that comes from eating hash brownies all night with LSD blotter chasers”).
It would be the sort of even-handed sarcasm that SNL used to be known for and only occasionally exhibits these days. Though that Bill Clinton thing was hilarious.
O’Reilly slaps an actor* that impersonates Michael Moore.
That, and that alone, is worth the price of admission. I plan on seeing it. I want the DVD, just so I can loop that sequence, over and over again.
I might even rip that sequence and put the Internet Cliche of Gerard Butler’s head over O’Reilly as he slaps Moore.
* Incidentally, as I understand it, the actor is the brother of the late Chris Farley.
I’m gonna go watch it on Sunday and take a friend. I don’t usually go to the theater but, I like making a point to Hollywood. I went and watched “Passion of the Christ” just to help put it over the top. This movie looks fun. Can’t wait
I just saw it (guess I’m more dedicated than the rest of you :-). It wasn’t bad. I expected a few more jokes to be happening in the background. But it was still a good movie with a good message. And I laughed a lot. I hope all conservatives go to it and send a message to Hollywood that conservative movies will make money.
Just saw it as well, and slapout was pretty much right on in his review.
Bill Maure’s POS, ‘Religulous’ opened in my area in ONE theatre, and that’s the one all the artsy-fartsy dweebs go to to watch foreign films.
‘An American Carol’ opened in just about every multiplex cinema in the area, so noone will have to drive too far to see it.
This bodes well.
I saw it tonight. The part where General Patton and Dennis Hopper fight the ACLU was my favorite.
The hubby took me to see it yesterday. We enjoyed it. It was on par with the rest of his films so if you liked them you like this. We live in a pretty conservative area and the theater was about half full, but there was a high school football game going on and we’re 5-0 this year, so…….
My favorite scene was the Rosie O’Connel interview by O’Reily. The whole Militant Christian thing was flipping hysterical. The portrayals by Farley, Grammer and Voght were excellent. I’d give it an 8 on a 10 scale. There were probably more jokes to me made but I’m sure some of these folks would like to work in Hollyweird again someday.
I enjoyed it.
Well acted, I give it 3 Stars.
Not as freneticly funny as ‘Airplane’,
because so much of the plot was believably true,
and seriously handled. So, it was alternatively moving and silly.
It shifts gears a lot, which will probably get it panned by reviewers.
Kelsey Grammar’s Patton was strong and moving,
as were portrayals of American fighters throughout the show.
ACLU lawyers were accurately portrayed.
Jon Voight’s short scene as George W.,
Washington, that is, was a highlight. God Bless America.
The movie makes a direct attack against ISLAMIC terrorism,
a first for Hollywood, and the empty headed pacifism that the communist infiltrators, er, I mean the left has embraced since the 1930’s.
Leslie Nielsen is always comic gold- stay through the ending credits for a short scene with him.
Pre-feature, the last trailer the ran was for that puke Ollie Stone movie, “W”.
What a wasted ad, no one who went to American Carol will waste money on that.
“Jon Voight’s short scene as George W.,
Washington, that is, was a highlight. God Bless America.”
I thought that part was great. I’m also partial to the “Stuck in 1968.” Maybe Frank should have another thread where we discuss our favorite scenes.
It’s got an A- right now from user reviews on Yahoo movies.
Just saw it. Enjoyed it. But, I must say, I was surprised to see Paris Hilton playing … Paris Hilton. And in a movie where she doesn’t suck!
Voight’s scene as George Washington was deeply moving.
A little uneven, but mainly because the left is so off-the-wall crazy that it’s so hard to come up with anything more off-the-wall than they already are.
All in all an acceptable movie. The part with Voight playing George Washington will actually give you a chill. Maybe I am too sentimental, but all in all not bad.
Not a bad at all. I live in NE Blue state, but managed to find a showing. Smaller theater, probably around half full. Everybody clapped at the end and there was palpable feeling of catharsis arising from the fact that finally – FINALLY – somebody had the balls to make a conservative/patriotic movie that in an objective sense, ahem, spoke “truth to power.” Sorry, I love that retarded phrase.
In typical Airplane style the jokes came fast and furious, but “1968” stood out. Couldn’t get enough of ACLU lawyers. It also had a serious side (although as another poster noted the underlying subject matter re: the left wings corrosive effect on America and inability to acknowledge the existential threat posed by radical Islam, is deadly serious). Voight is a compelling actor and his Washington at St. Paul’s chapel will give you the chills and stay with you after you leave the theatre.
Also, kudos to Kelsey Grammer for having the balls to play the steely eyed and white haired Patton in the way he did – basically as the anti-thesis of everything Hollywood elites stand for -an exemplar of an America that still exist in recent memory. An America the kids of 1968 tired to twist, distort, erode, and destroy. But the real America is still there if you look for it, which also was one of the points of the movie.
And yeah – what was the deal with trailer for Stone’s “W”. I mean nobody who would see American Carol would see the movie. Either Hollywood is completely out of it (quite possible), or it was intended as some type of f-u.
Anyone who likes IMAO will enjoy An American Carol and should go see it.
You should include the dinosaur with rockets on it, the mexicannon, and the space laser in your screenplay. It would be awesome!
After you do the screenplay for ‘Cronicles of Dubya’, you can start on the screenplay for ‘Hellbender’.
