I think a good rule to tell my Dad is that if you’ve only heard of it through an e-mail forward, it’s not true.

I watched The Event when it premiered. My Dad recorded it. This wasn’t like me; I hate most television and only watch that crab fishing show, college football, and college basketball. My Dad is a sensible man, but he did watch Jericho, claiming he was “just enjoying it” for the stupidity of it.
Anyway, I gave up on The Suckvent after twenty minutes and my Dad gave up on it after ten minutes. You keep doing what you do best, network televison.

-Just to play wet blank, even the most optimistic projections at this point still dont have Republicans anywhere near the seats they had pre-2006. This level of solidarity and enthusiasm usually doesn’t carry over to the next election 2 years later…. ask Obama. The right needs to find “acceptable” directions to expand its base.
-In 2005 I warned my friends on the right that that they need to start turning power back over to the states and start making some health-care reforms. They looked at me like I was crazy and then ignored the issue until it was to late and we all know how that turned out. Some earlier smart health care reforms showing prices dropping would have gone along way to removing the peoples willingness to gamble on Obamacare.
-Along a similar line I am convinced the right needs to come up with a passable plan for dealing with illegal immigration. Again if you dont do it in time the left will. Just like with healthcare we know how they will “handle” it. Amnesty pre 2005 did not have a lot of single issue voters, from then until now it it has been festering and has grown into a “Hispanic racial solidarity movement.” All the rhetoric but none of the action (which has been the plan so far) is the worst of both worlds. Fiscal conservatives literally will not survive if they dont find a way to diffuse this issue.
Flipside social conservatives will love the electoral power out of a hundred million new family focused Catholics. Presuming they still have a job, the government isn’t bankrupt, and they aren’t killed by gangwarfare.

Ha! Funny you mention Dads and e-mail forwards. Dad sends tons of em and 95% of them, though I agree with them, have total BS madeup ‘facts’ in them intended to bolster the opinion being forwarded. Most recent I saw was saying things like “13 people in 100,000 are murdered in counties that voted for Obama as opposed to 4 in counties that voted for McCain” . . . the irritating thing is that when people make up lies to bolster those ideas, it damages the cause as a whole. Why not debate the F’ers on facts? Goodness knows there’s enough to whine about with the left wing agenda without having to make up BS. Snopes is your friend.
