A Primary Challenge for Obama?

So Obama caved on the tax cuts like a good little weenie, extending all of them in exchange for an extension of the unemployment benefits which the GOP was probably going to go along with regardless. So now the left is apoplectic (it is Tuesday) as they won’t get whatever prize they thought they’d get if the rich had their taxes raised and are now talking about primarying Obama in 2012 with a more left wing candidate.

Really?

Now, Obama has been already soundly rejected as too left wing by Americans already, and the nutroots are going to find someone even a bigger weenie and even more of a push over on the international stage? I could only imagine that the mere sight of the guy would turn children gay.

Plus, if they primary the first black president, how is that going to work out with their minority pandering which is the only way the Democrats remain competitive? They could have their own little race war in their own party and completely destroy it.

So just a heads up; 2012 could be a lot of fun.

Inconsequential Rants

I realized that every so often there are things that I want to rant about that are just too inconsequential for a whole blog post but I also have too much to say to just tweet something and get it out of my system, so I figured I’d just put a couple in one post and have my peace. That was the whole point of the blog in the first place — to make sure some things I wanted said were said and on record — so here we go:

* Early Marvel comics from the sixties really didn’t get the show-don’t-tell-concept, which you think would be obvious when you have a book filled with pictures. For instance, if a guy is being tripped in one panel, there will inevitably be someone in the same panel saying, “That guy is being tripped!” Who is this aimed at? People who are unable to interprets basic images but are able to read? So infants who are literate.

* We have a satellite radio in one of our cars, and it’s pretty neat except for one thing. Whenever I’m listening to music on it, I will inevitably wonder who is singing the song I’m listen to. So I hit the “Info” button twice. Why twice? Because hitting it once just gives me the genre of the song. When in the history of music has anyone ever said, “I wonder what genre this song is?” But whoever made the radio apparently thought that was more important info than the artist. Do people even test these things out before they ship them? Why do people waste my time?

* I like Big Bang Theory (despite the four camera, laugh track set up which I thought we were about done with as a society), but you have to be extra careful to make sure it doesn’t fall off your DVR because they don’t make it available online at all. The show about geeks is apparently too scared of this new fangled internet to have online distribution. Can’t watch it with ads on Hulu; can’t buy an episode through iTunes. The only option to get a missed episode (if you don’t want to wait months for the DVD release) is to go to some skeevy site filled with intrusive ads and download some non-legal copy. I’m too old to be pirating things. Look: I have money right here in my hand. Just give me some way to give it to you in exchange for your show. Is that so hard?

Random Thoughts

And if they do raise taxes on the rich, what’s the prize we all get again?

Seriously, though, what’s the main benefit that taxing the rich is supposed to have that the left is so worked up about?

As part of the compromise, in Obama’s announcement of the tax plan he will publicly admit he’s a little girl.

President Logan from 24 now has a higher job approval rating than Obama.

We wanted someone better than Bush and instead ended with someone who takes a lot prodding to make sure he’s no worse than.

So what compromises will the GOP be able to make Obama do when they actually have a majority?

Know what would raise more tax revenue? Lowering unemployment.

If the economy improves after this, remember it’s because of Bush and his tax cuts.

How about a tax hike on the rich but only actors and athletes. Should take care of class warfare tic without harming economy much.

Obama realizes his party still has a majority, right?

It would be nice if GOP did some token compromise like raising taxes for those earning more than $3 trillion.

Know how you stop the rich from getting richer? Probably same way you alter the value of pi.

Dan Rather has typed documents proving Obama will be primaried.

I like how on FOX News, Juan Williams is the guy they bring on to defend Muslims.

Aren’t we the most attractive family ever? Answer: Yes!

A Blanket for World Peace

There’s a lot of competition for coolest gift for Buttercup, but author Mike Z. Williamson’s wife Gail (who also does combat photography) made this Nuke the Moon™ afghan for Buttercup:

Hopefully a reality in her lifetime.

Now Buttercup can go to sleep every night dreaming of world peace.

Also, I should mention Mike Z. Williamson is going to be a part of Operation Fight the Post Holiday Blues to help keep up troop morale after the holidays. They still need to raise more money, though, so donate if you can.

And as a bonus, here’s a picture of Buttercup thinking about the moon being nuked:

Argument for Increasing Taxes on the Rich

The left really is worked up about the rich needing to have their taxes raised. This is kinda hard to understand, as I don’t really get what benefit they think we’ll get from raising taxes in a bad economy, but I’ve listened carefully to a number of liberals, and here is a transcription of their argument of why we need to raise taxes on the rich:

“I get really worked up about the rich not paying more in taxes because how much they earn affects me because of [unintelligible]. And we really need the tax money; sure, we did a ton of spending without worrying about having revenue to back it up before, but now it’s really important because of [unintelligible]. And I don’t buy the argument or historical evidence that raising taxes will decrease tax revenue by harming the economy since [unintelligible]. There is just no reason to think that taking money away from job creators will harm job growth if you factor in [unintelligible]. In fact, raising taxes on the rich could help the economy by [unintelligible]. Really, the reason I get so worked up about us needing to tax the rich is because once their taxes are raised we all get the awesome prize of [unintelligible].”

I think that covers their whole argument. Did I miss anything?

Hey, know what would raise a lot of tax revenue? Getting everyone jobs.

Fun Animal Facts with Frank

I’m back from my trip! Yay! Thanks to Basil for keeping the blog active while I was gone.

Anyway, while in Texas we went to the Fort Worth zoo. It was pretty neat, and one of the orangutans had a newborn baby (an orangutan baby, not someone else’s baby), and I still don’t think the zoo has publicly announced it yet. I liked the zoo, but Buttercup just slept in her stroller the whole time, as she’s just a stupid eight-week-old baby. Still, I decided I need to practice being a father who is going to educate her and stuff, so here are all the facts I know of the animals we saw, accompanied by the pictures SarahK took.

FUN ANIMAL FACTS

* Due to its long, flexible neck, the pink flamingo is notorious for how difficult it is to execute by hanging.

* The white tiger cannot jump.

* The rhinoceros is the rare offspring of a unicorn and a lizard.

* The gorilla is the largest primate other than your mom.

* Penguins thrive due to a symbiotic relationship with Morgan Freeman.

* Giraffes have long necks to make eating grass seem less boring.

* The hippopotamus is best known for spouting conspiracy theories on The View.

* Since the elephant never forgets, he instead drinks to socialize.

* The lion’s large mane means it’s unemployed.

* The goliath birdeating tarantula got its name because zoologists got tired of kids asking, “What does it eat?”

* The cheetah was rated the fastest animal on land until it was disqualified for using performance enhancing drugs.

* The parrot’s ability to talk helps it hunt its favorite food: human faces.

* Due to its bright orange hair, the orangutan is often mistaken for a prop comic.

* The jaguar has largely been replaced in its ecosystem by the NCISuar.

* The bongo is yet another hoofed animal with antlers that no one finds particularly interesting.

* The zebra is a horse designed by Andy Warhol.

* Here are some more hoofed things with antlers. Really, who cares?

* The mountain lion’s main food source is the daughters of CTU agents who wander away from the plot.

* Due to the kangaroo’s built in pouch, it always gets severely molested by TSA agents.

* The coyote is the only member of the canine family that uses tools ordered by mail.

* The Komodo dragon (right) is not really a dragon; it’s just a lizard that flies and breathes fire.

* The Burmese python can swallow a sheep whole, though at the dinner table that gets it yelled at by its mom.

* The leaf-nosed snake is known for helping more attractive snakes woo females.

* The saltwater crocodile is a frequent enemy of Batman.

* The bald eagle recovered from near extinction after its thunderdomes were shut down.

Random Thoughts

Maybe it would help settle disputes in politics if we all came to an agreement on what the country’s mission statement is.

Apparently the only thing that can stop Buttercup from crying right now is the sun.

When liberals talk about voters voting against their own interests, it’s interesting they think the optimal voter is a whiny, selfish wiener.

I’ve been messing with all the states we passed through, but we entered Texas, so I’d better stop.

Ask any liberal: If Bristol wins DWTS, it will be a million times worse than Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

So how hard would it be for one of the tens of thousands of TSA agents to sneak a weapon past security? And what happens when terrorists figure out they can attack other things than planes? Are we repeating this everywhere?

Thanksgiving is the day liberals give thanks that we let them exist despite the fact that we conservatives have guns and are crazy and violent.

The new iOS is revolutionary. Now I can seamlessly move between Angry Birds and videos on how to get 3 stars in Angry Birds.

Due to the economy, Santa will be labeling a record number of children as bad to save on gifts and sleigh gas.

If you want kids these days to have realistic body expectations, watch standard definition shows and stretch to fill a widescreen.

Lots of brick houses in Texas. Must be because of all the wolves.

Wish the real world was more like Professor Layton’s world where everyone throws puzzles at you all the time.

I’ve barely seen anyone who I don’t think either loves Sarah Palin too much or hates her too much.

As for Mike Huckabee, everyone I know hates him too much and at the same time NOT NEARLY ENOUGH!

Like how the Ft. Worth Zoo had dispensers where for 25 cents you get small rocks to throw at the monkeys.

Kinda weird how Steven Wright mastered Twitter long before Twitter existed.

Had to explain to my nephew who Aquaman is. What are they teaching them in schools these days?

So do Democrats have an economic plan beyond whining about rich people?

“Speed monitored by aircraft.” Yeah, whatever. “Oh no! The sky cops are gonna get me!” Better sign: “Speed monitored by hidden ninjas.”

So who are these people who keep trying to patronize convenience stores without their shirts and shoes?

Why are some people getting worked up over the idea of the rich getting their taxes raised. How exactly does that help anyone?

The Angry Birds advent calendar with a new level every day is pretty awesome.

When I retire, I think I’ll become a grizzled prospector.

What is this “professional football” that people talk about?

Somebody mentioned something about “professional football” the other day. I simply thought they were talking about Auburn and Cam Newton. But, no. As it turns out, there is an organization that consists of grown men playing football on Sunday afternoons.

Who knew?

It’s almost like real football, like they play on college campuses on Saturdays. Or Fridays, if you have a small college, or high school.

But, this group of people are something called the “Eneffell.” I think that’s how it’s pronounced, anyway. Like the letters “N,” “F,” and “L” all rolled together.

I’m not sure. The thought of grown men getting together and playing a kids game? It seems to me it would attract all kinds of riff-raff. Like potheads, murderers, rapists, Chris Rock look-alikes, and other irreputable types.

I prefer the real football. College football.

The players still get paid. Or their dads do. Or their dad’s churches do.

But, they only hang around for four years, then move on to selling drugs or knocking over liquor stores. Or becoming potheads, murderers, rapists, or Chris Rock look-alikes.

The college game even has playoffs and a championship. For three levels. And could have one for a fourth, if someone would just come up with a good plan.

Anyway, this “Eneffell?” I don’t think it’ll last.

Tracking Web browsers

What’s the latest security issue with Web browsers? Knowing where you’ve been. And telling.

You know how on a Web browser, you can hit the back button and it’ll take you to the page you were just on. And how you can do that over and over? For a bit, anyway?

Well, the browser can do it because it keeps up with where you’ve been. And, some Websites can have code that tracks where you’ve been.

Lot of browsers report where you just came from. Suppose you clicked a link to come to this Website, your browser probably included the page you were on in the HTTP_REFERER header (yes, it’s correctly misspelled as “referer”). But this security issue isn’t that. It’s the actual reading of the Web browser history.

Didn’t know they could do that? Yeah, well they can. For lots of browsers anyway. LikeInternet Explorer and Firefox. And older version of Chrome and Safari.

The report adds to growing worry about surreptitious surveillance by Internet companies and comes as federal regulators in the U.S. are proposing a “Do Not Track” tool that would prevent advertisers from following consumers around online to sell them more products.

The researchers found 46 sites, ranging from smutty to staid, that tried to pry loose their visitors browsing histories using this technique, sometimes with homegrown tracking code. Nearly half of the 46 sites, including financial research site Morningstar.com and news site Newsmax.com, used an ad-targeting company, Interclick, which says its code was responsible for the tracking.

Oh, and I’m not saying we have any of that kind of tracking code here, but some of you people are freaks. Seriously. I can’t believe the places some of you go.

I do wonder, though, what would happen if WikiLeaks got hold of this information for, say, the president? Or some of his cabinet? So, I did some digging. And here’s what I found.

Obama’s most-visited Websites?

Joe Biden’s most-visited Websites?

  • Trick question. His computer is an Etch-A-Sketch.

I’m sort of afraid to ask, but … what do you think are the most-visited Websites by some high-profile people? Oh, and you may not want to include a link. Or I may not want you to.

NASA discovers life on Earth

Hello, I’m Dwayne Brown, NASA’s token black guy. And I’m here to introduce a bunch of white folks who called this news conference to announce that they’ve discovered life on Earth.

Seriously. These crackers here have taken your hard-earned money that your Congressmen gave them and, rather than look for life on Mars or, as some in the media speculated, Saturn’s moon Titan, they went to some lake in California and found microbes.

Hell, you can find all sorts of strange life in California. I mean, it’s freakin’ California! You ever walk the streets of some of those towns?

Tell you what. Let me let these so-called “scientists” tell you themselves about what they’ve wasted your money on. Which one of you wants to go first?

lolgov – Part the last

Harvey will be back at IMAO soon. And, you’ll be able to read new lolbama and lolterizt posts when he returns.

While he’s vacationing, I’m offering a poor substitute: lolgov. Which is pretty much an excuse for me to post something lame.

But, on the upside, it did give you the chance to get some of the lol-stuff out of your system. And, as promised, here are the entries that were submitted.

From DamnCat:

From Larsinkima:

From Anniee451:

Returning soon: Harvey’s lolterizt and lolbama. If you have something for him, submit for either at lolterizt@gmail.com

Jesus and the ants

Sounds like some band from Athens, doesn’t it: Jesus and the ants.

Maybe Seattle. Or Manchester.

Actually, it’s part of an exhibit that was at the National Portrait Gallery, which is part of the Smithsonian. I’ve been to the Gallery of Art, but never to the Portrait Gallery, so I can’t say if otherwise it’s worth a darn.

Anyway, they’ve had some exhibit going on there called “Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture.” And that right there is the problem. Who says “portraiture” anyway? A bunch of snot-heads, that’s who. You hear somebody use “portraiture” in a sentence, hit them in the head with a stick. They’ll thank you for it. Or I will. Either way, you’ll be thanked.

But, about Jesus and the ants. One of the exhibits of portraiture is a video. Go figure. And, in the video, is an image of Jesus covered in ants. Only, now the Smithsonian has pulled the video. The guy in charge said “I regret that some reports about the exhibit have created an impression that the video is intentionally sacrilegious. In fact, the artist’s intention was to depict the suffering of an AIDS victim. It was not the museum’s intention to offend. We have removed the video.”

Which means it’s not his fault he had a video of Jesus covered in ants. It’s the fault of Fox News. Or blogs. Or Bush. Or someone else.

I think pulling the video was a mistake. I think they should have found some video of Mohammed covered in ants and included it. Somehow, I suspect that the problem would have been solved in short order, without any Christian having to say or do anything.

Dealing with life on Titan

NASA has some big announcement today. And there’s speculation that they found life in outer space.

Where? On Titan, according to the stories.

Why do the news-like people think that’s what NASA’s big announcement will be? Because of some article NASA posted back in June. It included this NASA-speak:

This lack of acetylene is important because that chemical would likely be the best energy source for a methane-based life on Titan, said Chris McKay, an astrobiologist at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif., who proposed a set of conditions necessary for this kind of methane-based life on Titan in 2005. One interpretation of the acetylene data is that the hydrocarbon is being consumed as food. But McKay said the flow of hydrogen is even more critical because all of their proposed mechanisms involved the consumption of hydrogen.

What I read into all that is that there are some chemicals disappearing on a moon orbiting a planet that’s 9-1/2 times as far away from the sun as the Earth is.

Is there life on Titan causing those chemicals to disappear? Nobody knows.

But what if there is? Is it dangerous life? It might be. Every movie I’ve every seen about life on other planets involves them trying to kill us, so I don’t trust them.

We need to kill Titanians first. And, I think Obama has a plan to do just that.

NASA has been doing outreach to Muslims.

NASA has been planning a one-way space ship trip.

What do these two things mean?

Obama is going to have NASA send suicide bombers to Titan to blow it up.

Damn infidel microbes.

See? Obama knows what he’s doing after all. He’s the mostest smirt presidential president we’ve ever had.

Democrats’ Lame-Duck Agenda

Well, well, well! It seems the Republicans in the Senate just may have grown a pair by promising to stand united and filibuster the Dems’ Hurry-Up Offense flurry of Progressive wish-list legislation in advance of their turning over the keys to the House in January. At least until the looming massive tax-increases on absolutely everyone who pays taxes are stopped and the government is kept funded until the next Congress can pass an actual budget (something the Dems thought was trivial and not worth their time and effort despite it being one of the few responsibilities of the Congress enumerated in the Constitution! — See Article 1, Section 9, the part about “No money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.”)

After all, the voters decided to evict Nancy and the Donks from the Big Chair for just such abuses of power as, well, rushing through unpopular and possibly unconstitutional legislation that does nothing but screw up the economy and destroy the fabric of the country in order to serve their special interest groups and nutroot kooks…oh, and of course, The Dark Lord Soros instead of concentrating on what’s best for the country, like jobs and the economy and people’s ability to do trivial crap like feed their kids and pay their mortgages. So, naturally, the Democrats schedule a last-gasp effort to do the former again at the expense of the latter. Go figure!

So, what could be so important that the Democrats need to hurry up and pass it with their collective dying breath before bothering with a budget and saving the populace from the untold economic misery from a massive tax increase even most of them agree we can’t afford in the midst of one of the worst recessions in history?

New powers for the Food Police that will cause food prices to skyrocket; Gays serving openly in the military; Free goodies for illegal aliens…the really, really important stuff the whole country can’t wait to see passed!

So, since they seem intent on making asses of themselves, let’s help the Democrats out here by helping them fill in some more important agenda items that need to be addressed before the Republicans can block it in the House and they need to concentrate on all that mundane, necessary stuff like budgets.

  • In the wake of repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, immediately pass a bill establishing an all-transvestite & transsexual combat squad…the T&A Team! (Or maybe they’d prefer the Pink Berets?)
  • A resolution declaring the prime-time lineup at MSNBC a National Treasure and Keith Olbermann’s bathtub & Chris Matthews’ leg National Historical Monuments, making each of them eligible for millions in federal grants.
  • A bill linking the new TSA x-ray and grope procedures at the nation’s airports with ObamaCare, saving billions in costs annually by counting them as medical check-ups! (“Now, turn your head and cough.”)
  • A new law banning the use of those nasty old fossil fuels in favor of such new “green” technology as…well, we’ll leave that part for later. Let’s just ban the fossil fuels for now! Think of the polar bears we’ll save!
  • A bill declaring each September 11th from now on as “National Hug an Imam Day” in the interest of promoting peace and multicultural understanding.
  • An appropriations bill for trillions of dollars in new stimulus spending on such job-creating projects as studying the effects of fish farts on ocean currents and creating public murals depicting President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid hugging children and snuggling with puppies.
  • New banking loan regulations giving preferential treatment to the chronically unemployed so they can borrow their way out of debt! What could go wrong?

Now it’s your turn! What else can the Democrats do in the lame-duck session before the clock runs out on the Progressive Candyland Grab-a-Thon? Have at it in the comments!

Mood music

Columbus radio makes me sad and angry. Columbus, Georgia, in case you didn’t know.

Let me explain. The “radio makes me angry” not the “Georgia” part.

I used to work in radio, back in high school and for a little bit afterwards. I know that it’s possible to play one song at a time, and not have two overlapping so you can’t hear either.

I know it’s possible to have one commercial playing at a time, not have two or three playing at the same time.

I also know it’s possible to have up-to-date commercials playing, not some Halloween Sale at the furniture store running the week after Thanksgiving.

Columbus radio stations, many of them anyway, don’t seem to understand that. The typical listener, I suppose, it just confuses. Me, it pisses off. Because I know what’s happening: there’s an idiot getting paid money (not good money, but money, anyway) to not do his job right. A job that I could do well (the production board, not the announcing part, though I did both at the same time) when I was in high school.

Maybe I’m odd that way. But, think about it. If you were witnessing someone do something you know how to do, and they always screwed it up, wouldn’t you want to say something? Or walk away shaking your head? Or take a stick and … well, you understand, right?

That kind of stuff makes me just shake my head. But, I get over it easy enough. It’s called XM Radio. When I find a local station that is playing good music (doesn’t happen often, but it does happen), I’ll listen. But, when they start screwing up (which does happen often) I switch over to XM. They don’t screw up. At least, not that I’ve noticed.

The music isn’t always what I want to hear. Some of the music from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s really sucked. But, with the number of stations they have, I can usually find something I can listen to. Heck, if Classic Vinyl or Classic Rewind are playing crappy stuff, I’ll even drop down to the 40s on 4, or Symphony Hall, or something. The point is, when the local radio stations get me in a bad mood because of their incompetence, I can find something on XM. Happens a lot. I can find music to get me out of a bad mood.

Works for lots of people. That’s why they play Christmas music on the radio starting in August. Seems like that’s when they start it.

XM does the same thing. The playing Christmas music early part. I discovered that a couple of weeks ago when I picked Wife up from work. You see, I normally listen to 60s or 70s music. But, when I picked her up, I switched the radio to XM 23 / Love.

You guys know why. Mood music. You don’t have to play mood music for a guy. Heck, listening to music doesn’t get guys in the mood. Just the fact we have dangly parts is all it takes to get guys in the mood. And music won’t get guys out of the mood. The only sounds that might get a guy out of the mood might be a baby crying. Maybe. Other than that, most guys are ready to go at the drop of a hat. Or at the drop of a skirt.

Women, though, are different characters. That’s why XM Radio (and Sirius, on channel 3) has that Love Songs channel. There are some guys helping out in programming, and they understand.

Anyway, I put the radio on Love Songs just as Wife got into the car. Mood music. And, it worked. Seems that, until the end of the year, instead of Love Songs, that channel is now Contemporary Holiday Favorites. Christmas-like music featuring John Mayer, Colbie Caillat, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, and other people I’ve never heard of. In fact, I though Josh Groban coached the Raiders at one time. Or was it Tampa Bay?

Anyway, as mood music, it worked. Only, instead of us running home and getting busy, we went to Walmart. And Kmart. And Sears. All on the same night.

And, other stores on nights since then.

Yep, that mood music really works.

Maybe we need some mood music for other things, too.

If we could find out what radio Obama listens to, maybe we could get them to play songs to make him, I don’t know, actually be an American president. Like “God Bless the USA.” Then again, I’m not sure Obama believes in either of those.

I wonder what Obama listens to. What kind of radio programs gets him in the mood to do the things he does. Does SiriusXM have an Incompetent Channel? If so, they need to change it. And fast.
