Link of the Day: Ninja Nun

[High Praise! to Veeshir]

When I asked about underrated bloggers, Veeshir said:

“Another good place is Robert A. Hoyt, he does a comic called Ninja Nun. It makes me laugh.”

So I went there, and started from the beginning, and read until the title character finally showed up, just for a quality check.

I can definitely see how this could become a habit (no pun intended).

Not as cerebral as XKCD, not as meta as Order of the Stick, but his writing style is fairly clever, and well-adapted to a 3-panel comic. I think this one (#3) is a fair representation (sorry it’s kinda squinty, had to reduce it from 800 to 560 to fit our main column):

If that one at least made you smile, start at #1 and work your way through.

As a reward, I can promise you a Monty Python reference before #10.

  1. Er… I don’t know how to explain this, but the cartoonist is a young man, not a young woman. I know, I know, but his name is Robert A. Hoyt. My fault (as his mom) I named him for Robert Anson Heinlein.

You just managed to make him both very happy — he loves IMAO — and very embarrassed. I pointed out he shouldn’t be. Every male main character has a female version in another universe. 🙂

  2. While I agree, whole heartedly, that Ninja Nun is a great comic — the creator is Robert A. Hoyt (male) *not* “Roberta Hoyt” — definitely a *he* and not a ‘she’ 🙂 I follow Sister Agnes Day religiously (I *had* to, you could see it coming!). Very enjoyable.

  3. Oh, no worries. Either way, I got a link from IMAO out of it. Freaking IMAO! How many people on THIS site can… say…

    Oh. Yes. Right. Ahem.

Anyway, it’s better this way. The Monkey Assassins probably took their cue from the first posting, in which case they are already hot on the trail of my Rule 63 otherworld counterpart, leaving me to write my DevNeuro exam in peace.

I never liked her anyway. She draws her comic with all hearts and flowers. Honestly, it looks like Carebears.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to wrestle a grizzly bear. On a mountain. With an flamethrower*. While playing electrical guitar. Shirtless. Because this incident has in no way challenged my manhood. Honest.

*I realize it’s unclear whether me, the bear, or the mountain will be holding the flamethrower. To be on the safe side, let’s just go with “all of the above”. Grammatical exactitude is for girls.

  4. A suitable act of contrition from Harvey might be visiting Robert’s homepage and listening to a bit of his “vast” library of music to see if any merits a link. If we can tear him away from his Robert Flack albums for a minute.
