For me, it’s not a matter of being qualified, I simply, am not worthy of the honor. I believe it is a calling, much like the Priesthood, or perhaps medicine.
I’m pretty sure I’m not worthy to visit the Tomb, much less guard it. I’d have to crawl, or put ashes on my head or something. Symbolism matters, and what symbol of abasement is sufficient in the face of so much Sacrifice?
Since my drill and ceremony is on a level with the Three Stooges or Red Skelton, no way. I’d be glad to clerk for them.
…I think a lot of people properly wash out on the “have to be able to hold it for 2 hours when it’s really really cold” test.
