[High Praise! to Mike Rowe]
Off The Wall: What’s on YOUR Wall?
Seriously, I was racked with shivers of pure awe at how well Mike expressed himself in this piece. Go read. I promise it’ll be the bright spot of your day.

It’s ironic that what she uses as an example of “hard work”, picking cotton, is hardly what I’d consider “hard” to do. It way have been boring and tedious but it’s certainly not rocket science and cotton isn’t exactly heavy. The slaves in Egypt who had to push giant stones up ramps to build pyramids, now that is hard work but Obama voters don’t know what a pyramid is…or an Egyptian…or that pretty much everyone has been a slave at some point. They probably couldn’t handle picking cotton either.
..After having a conversation with my father yesterday about how capitalism makes me work hard and how wrong that is and me saying almost exactly the same thing…it was good to see. When I saw that news story I had the same reaction – picking cotton is not hard work. It’s certainly menial, and the conditions are harsh, but it’s not exactly brain surgery. It just plays into the socialist talking point that all work should be valued equally. I would even argue that building the pyramids wasn’t hard work either. It was strenuous, sure but it was just manual labor. No skill was required. Now…designing the apparatus and methodologies to build those pyramids – THAT was hard work. It required thought, understanding of abstract concepts, and the application of those concepts in ways that had not been previously done. Which is why only a few people could do it.
Liberals want government to be some kind of fairness cop – making sure that everyone gets the same result no matter how much effort they put in, what kind of choices they’ve made in life, or what their own natural potential is. The only way to do that is to force everyone to conform to the lowest common denominator…and the lowest common denominator is what you see on those 2 minute charity commercials at night where they show you videos of sad starving children and then some obese spokesperson asks you for money. Liberals want the world to look like poverty porn…except for ruling class, of course.
