The reason tuition keeps going up is the student loan program. As long as the taxpayers are kept on the hook for these costs they will keep increasing them. There is not a competitive market for the degrees, and it looks like they make programs up to entice young skulls of mush into signing up to a non dischargable debt.
My children couldnt buy a house at the agevof 18, but counselors wanted them to go to college with a total debt package in excess of the value of my home.
I am appalled with the concept of abolishing the outstanding student debt, and shifting to the taxpayer. This was voluntarily taken, and belongs to the parties who made the agreement. I should not have any cost or say in the transactions.
Make the college the ultimate guarantor of the the debt. If a graduate defaults on his loans the College has to pay out of its endowment to cover the loan. You will see cost coming down and colleges only being used by people getting degrees that will land them a job and not some made up, feel good, degree that makes them hire-able at Starbucks or fodder for the protest “Movement” brigades.
