The Show Must Go On . . . And On

CNN Lost Their Mind (Again): Guess How Long Their Climate Change Town Hall Is

Just when we thought CNN couldn’t get any more pathetic, they prove us wrong…again. The network on Tuesday announced their climate change town hall. The debate, scheduled for Sept. 4th will be seven hours long. Yes, seven hours. The reason? The network wants to give each of the 10 candidates ample time to respond to questions during this “unprecedented prime-time event.”

They should have the first speaker stand on a beach at low tide, and all subsequent speakers in the same spot.

The seventh speaker can yell “See?! See?!” as the ocean rises.

If that doesn’t get people to turn off their power-consuming TVs, I don’t know what will.

  1. From CNN’s own press release:

The United Nations — which projects that temperatures will rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by as early as 2030 —

What? Haven’t temperatures already risen 1.5 degrees C in 150 years? Then what has all this noise been about??

The original Global Warming IPCC methodology compared temperatures to a baseline period in the 1970s and 80s. But since temperatures stopped increasing, with a little sleight of hand that baseline has been abandoned. Now they compare today’s temperatures to some pre-data, pre-industrial past for which they can confidently and authoritatively model (there’s that word again) the temperature.

Anyway, temperatures change by 1.5 degrees Celsius minute by minute when clouds gather or disperse.

Are there species that cannot acclimate to this temperature change over the course of 150 years and survive? Then they shouldn’t.

Perhaps they meant not local temperature, but “average global temperature.” This is the part of their mathematical model that might decrease in value if even one more temperature-recording station was added in Siberia. And exactly how many are there in all of Siberia, by the way?

  2. But the UN

has warned that governments must take “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society.”

Why in “all aspects” of society — such as gay marriage, gun ownership, and abortion — rather than those that could conceivably affect climate? Or did the UN just show the hand they’re playing with?

    .

And speaking of tipping your hand, CNN

announced that the town hall audience will be drawn from Democratic and independent voters and stakeholders interested in the issue and no public tickets will be available.

Hold up a minute. Wasn’t there some pretense, at some point, dimly in the past, that CNN was an objective news organization; and wasn’t there a tradition that the term “town hall” was supposed to imply that it represented a cross-section of the electorate?

    Bah! to this 7-hour rally.

  3. I pity any air traveler on the day of the “Debate”. Imagine being trapped in an airport and having no other viewing choice.

Also I read somewhere, I can find it if you really want me to, that a new standard measurement for global temperature was created in 2005 with weather stations located equally around the globe and in places not affected by urban heat sinks and other man made structures or activities that can disrupt accurate readings. In the 14 years of this systems existence there has been no detectable rise in global temperature. None. Zilch. Nada. Temperatures have fluctuated but overall it is a flat-line trend.
