If an effort to not offend, a university in North Carolina has replaced the word “freshman” with the term “first-year”.
Not enough. “North” Carolina is offensive to people who aren’t good with directions.

How about 13th year…of elementary school? First is offensive to all the students who will be last…in all sorts of ways if this is where they get their “education”.
as a former resident of “The Old Dominion” (Than’s Virginia to all you Yankees), North Carlina is offensive as it refers to a people who didn’t have enough sense to continue north.
Since they love abortion so much, why not call it 1st, 2nd,3rd and 4th trimester? That way, they can get aborted expelled at any point during any of them. Then they’ll feel good about themselves. Isn’t that what’s really important?
In football, there are “true freshmen” and that’s not only NOT insulting, it’s the highest title in college football. But there are no true sophomores, juniors or seniors because, let’s face it, they’re all faking it academically at that point.

An ironically sophomoric attitude.
Seems to me that “North” Carolina should be offensive to people from the south.
I go with Crash and call them “Meat”.
Sophomore is offensive to those who have less.
Junior obviously implies inferiority. And Senior, unwarranted superiority.
Frankly, it’s all a class system that needs to be abolished!

Reminds me of Earth Girls are Easy
“I’m a freshman in my 3rd year at UCLA and I want to be a veterinarian because I love children”
I bet they have a bunch of 3rd year freshman whose parents don’t think it’s so funny.
