It’s the primaries in Florida tomorrow. Anyone following Florida politics and know which Republican candidate for Senator I should vote for? Right now, I’m planning on voting for Mel Martinez because he seems to be the Bush endorsed candidate and I like mindlessly following my party.

Numbah 1!
Martinez. Definitly.
Martinez is my pick
I hadn’t followed much of the candidates, and my choice was between McCollum and Martinez. McCollum’s commercials were good and got me thinking, but my representative and the president were more on Martinez’s side, and I trust their judgement over mine.
But whoever wins the primary will definitely get my vote over the Dem. candidate.
Beo: What’s he a candidate for? US House, not a real problem. US Senate – well, the problem with conservative Democrat senators is that 90% of them grow liberal the longer they stay in Washington, as they focus on the national party attitude instead of the attitude of their constituants.
Local/State stuff, it’s not as big a problem.
I just picked up the primary ballot today and am similarly clueless. I did have fun with the tots at Andretti Thrill park over the weekend racing go karts & laser tagging. You could always go there in the morning, then come in to work late and say you were in a 3-hour line at the polling place. The other recommendations I read here look good too.
I think the race is between Martinez and McCollum. I’m in Jax, leaning towards Martinez primarily because McCollum couldn’t win the last time he ran against the Democrats. Also, Martinez will garner the Hispanic vote as well as having the backing of Bush at the same time. Gallagher looked OK too, but overall electability is one of my traits and I think that’s Martinez.
Is there a reason why people aren’t mentioning Larry Klaman. I mean it is a primary. When Martinez or McCollum ultimately win, they should know there was a lot of support for the hardcore conservatism of Klaman. For those who don’t know, he was part of Judicial Watch, the people who kept riding Clinton on all of the laws he broke and briught them to the publics attention.
He probably pissed off alot of republicans, because he brought similar allegations of wrongdoing to the focus early in the Bush presidency.
I’ve heard some radio interviews with the guy, and he seems like a real straight shooter. Not a politician, but a guy who is willing to go to Washington and fight for what he believes in. Which happens to coincide with what I believe in ie. small government, low taxes …
Look into him.
If anybody knows why he’s a bad candidate, I’d like to hear it.
Mike
Martinez is a trial lawyer, as in a John-Edwards-don’t-reform-tort-law-and screw-everyone-by-paying-higher-insurance-so-I-can-have-a-new-Jaguar. I like Gallagher and will give him the nod even though I believe BM (McCollum) will win. He has the best chance against that falccid wus Betty Castor who wouldn’t speak out against the Hamas operative at USF.
I just bought 500 rounds of Match grade 45 ammo . And 500 rouns of sub-sonic 9mmm from ammoman. About $130 delivered for each.
It depends what your priorities are. Take the case of Arlen Specter…he will now sweep PA with >55% of the vote because he will not alienate the looney left strongholds in Philadelphia. Toomey was by all conservative measures the better man, but now there is a solid Republican ticket (Bush-Specter) which makes PA’s 21 electoral votes competitive (A small rise in Bush’s national polls will result in PA falling into his column).
A similar situation has emerged in Florida. McCollum is more ideologically principled, but Bush needs a Cuban to campaign with him because his Cuban policies (which should offend most free traders) have alienated a large percentage of Cubans. I saw somewhere that Bush’s support amongst Cubans fell from 81% in the last election to 65% in this one. This is harrowing to watch and we need to stop our losses quickly.
Remember, a tort reform bill can come about later. But now we need to crush John Forbes Thorne Kerry. Vote for Martinez, it’s our last chance.
Well, I can’t vote Martinez because I’m hoping the ballot will be in English for a change. Plus, Byrd has done favors for my family.
