I was looking at the Democratic Underground message boards (I can’t help it; they’re wacky), and found the inevitable discussion about leaving America if Bush wins reelection.
That got me thinking about a worthy charity; liberals are always threatening to leave the country, but they pretty much never follow through. I say we all raise money to buy one way tickets to France for all the whiners and hire scary looking people to make sure they make their planes. Maybe they’d wise up after having to actually reside in those other countries they admire so, or, in the least, they’d be gone!
I think it’s quite telling how one of the DUs notes how they don’t see discussion on conservative bboards of leaving if Kerry becomes president. That’s because we think all other countries suck (apologies to foreign readers… and pity). Where would we flee to that has even a tenth of the grandeur of America? Even with Kerry as president and Democrats controlling both Houses of Congress, they couldn’t ruin America if they tried. Americans kick ass, and they will for all my lifetime. If the fire that is the American spirit starts to fade, there is no retreat. This land is the battleground from freedom in the world, and, while there is a drop of the blood in my body, I will reside in the front lines of the fight for civilization as we know it.
Of course, the battle would be easier if we deported all the whiners.

IF Kerry wins I’m not about to leave. I’m going to stay right here and participate in my country. I’m not going to run whining into some other country. If he does something I don’t like I’m going to work with other like minded people to get things changed.

As for why you don’t see Bush supporters saying the same thing about a Kerry win, it’s because we’re adults. We don’t whine and pout when we loose an election, we go on with the business of running our lives and the country. Hey Greg, don’t make fun of Montreal – any city that combines the best aspects of Europe(the attitudes about sex and booze, most notably) and North America(assorted conveniences), along with the fact that I’m starting to think Quebec is the most right-wing place in Canada on a lot of issues, and you have one frickin’ sweet city. I’ll get back to you in March if I’m wrong(I’ll actually be heading there without my parents for a few days), but I don’t think I am.
Oh, and even if you were right, it’s way too easy to get back into the US from Montreal, it’s like 100 miles from a land border.

I have long desired to setup a non-profit charity specifically for the deportation of those who want to leave. Legal experts and expenses would be taken care of by the foundation and anyone who wanted to leave could with only one caveat. They can never return and must renounce their citizenship. Anyone who returns to the USA would be required to pay the cost of their exportation and perhaps penalty fees if we could get away with it. Complimentary informational packages would be mailed to any celebrity who suggests they’d love to leave. I am thinking that any country of their choice would be acceptable, so long as they leave, but it sure would be more fun to dump them in Nigeria. Or Iran. Or North Korea!
I had this idea many years ago as a child, and I’ve come close to asking a lawyer about the legality of such a venture. Anyone know?

Back before the start of the war, Paul offered to buy one-way plane tickets for a few of these wankers in Boulder, to the country of their choice, on the condition they would never, ever return.

OK, maybe I was a bit hasty in my “exit strategy” post yesterday. Then again, I didn’t find it prudent at the time to expand further on my thought process. Thanks Frank J for putting things even more into perspective for me. First and foremost, I love this country and I thank God everyday that I was lucky enough to be born an American.
That said, I have to take exception to your comment that, “they couldn’t ruin America if they tried.” when relating to Leftists. Frank J, they’re already trying! Whether it’s gun control, the 10 commandments, “Under God” in the pledge, gay marriage, abortion, or “fill in the blank” thoughts and concerns of most normal, thought capable Americans, there’s just simply too many uneducated, (mis)informed by mass media and government indoctrination centers (public schools) idiots out there with a right to vote! They are why we are currently fighting the fight for our very survival, i.e. common sense America.
Thankfully the majority of us who still believe in America, what she was founded upon, and the role she plays in the world have, in a small part, FOX News and the blogosphere. The blogosphere has finally gained the attention it deserves in modern politics. Dan Rather, I hope, finally realizes that (most likely not, he’s not smart enough). The “Big 3” no longer have the influence they once did and, having realized that, they’re pissed about it and they’re going to all-out lengths to fight it. Luckily some, such as Sinclair Broadcasting, are fighting back. “Mock”umentaries are fine when they’re disseminating false information (i.e. Mr. “sweats gravy” Moore) but the Lefties get their panties in a wad when a true documentary stating nothing other than fact is introduced to the American media. They cry about censorship when the Democraticaly led FCC fines Howard Stern and then attempt to censor honesty in the current case of Sinclair Broadcasting. Funny, it seems to have backfired on them this time because it looks like a lot of non-Sinclair owned stations want to run that very same program.
Basically it comes down to this. First of all, if you don’t vote, don’t dare even think of mentioning your opinion in a discussion whether it’s here (the blogosphere), at work, or anywhere other than your own home. You lost that right when you failed to become part of the process. Second, we can all discuss how loony the Left is until the cows come home but if we don’t become part of the process and get the word (i.e. the Truth) out, we are deserving of our fate. Finally, I discussed an “exit strategy” yesterday in response to another post. I didn’t necessarily mean that your exit strategy should be to move to another country should the Flip-waffler be elected. Granted, some may choose that option. I would opine that you should stay put, as painful as it may be, and fight for what you believe in. Don’t become part of the crowd who wakes at the crack of noon and elects yet another appeaser! We, yes we as in every normal “heartland” believing American run this country. We own most (75%) of the business’ that keep it running. We won’t forsake our faith (whatever it may be for you) or our beliefs just to make others happy. Don’t like the 10 commandments at the courthouse? Then don’t look at ’em! Just keep moving along with the rest of the herd and keep your mouth shut. Don’t like “under God” in the pledge? Then don’t say it and just shut up about it already. Gun control? That means hitting what you were aiming at, nothin’ else!
Fight for what you believe to be true regardless of which side of the aisle you’re on. However, while doing so, do us all a favor and don’t bitch when things don’t go your way.
