A little commentary, if I may.
You know the phrase: “Is the pope Catholic?” It’s supposed to be a rhetorical question, but, apparently if you asked that to some people a few days ago, they would have just stared at you with this dumb expression on their faces, not sure what the answer is.
All the (generated) controversy over Pope Benedict XVI is that he’s a hardliner against abortion, against euthanasia, against ordaining women, against homosexual activity, and against priests marrying. In other words, THE POPE IS CATHOLIC!!!
Yes, a Catholic was actually elected as pope; who knew?
Well, I say, if you forgot to vote in the papal conclave, you don’t have a right to complain.

First!
Now that that’s out of the way…
I voted for the Pope twice, but I did hear that there were some precincts were there were Catholics were disenfranchised and non-Catholics were allowed to vote. I demand that Jesse Jackson launch an investigation.
Oh wait…I’m not Catholic. Why do I care who the Pope is?
it certainly is funny … what lengths the newsies go to … to try and stir up some controversy. On the local CBS news they started off with some people who thought this new pope wasn’t the best choice …. and the identifiers on the screen showed “Protestant” and “Luthern”.
I’m sorry … what?
It would never happen in America.
I’m glad the new Pope is Catholic, as am I. Here in DC they’ve been making a big deal about him being a Hitler Youth, well it seems to me when you have to choose between Hitler Youth and death in concentration camp, it’s a pretty easy decision to make. But what can you expect from the Jooooooooooooooooos that control the media.
Yep, but actually EVERY kid in Germany was inducted into the Hitlerjugend whether they wanted to or not. The krauts had 14 year olds manning anti-aircraft guns on D-Day because of severe casualties suffered on the Eastern (Russian) Front. The New Pope was eventually conscripted into the Wehrmacht (German Army) and deserted shortly thereafter, though, for some reason, he was taken POW by American forces (after that?)…
I for one forgot to vote in the conclave, a result of my forgetting to be a Cardinal. However, based on his stances on these issues, so far I adore the new spiritual leader of my faith.
I tried to vote for Arinze but my chad was hanging out and they made me leave.
Frank- on your honeymoon, you and Sarah should personally visit these bridespammers, and slowly torture them with something new, something blue, and something pointy.
The voting machines counted by vote wrong. I thought that I was ordering eggs benedict for breakfast.
Hey Frank and Sarah, how about making shopshop go BOMBOM on your honeymoon?
I was going to vote but I forgot all about the time zone difference.
shakes fist Darn time zones!
Dave – here in Indiana half the time were not even sure if we’re in a time zone.
(shakes fist) Damn lack of Daylight Savings Time!
I thought the Pope was a bear…?
Hey, I agree, the Hitler Youth thing is out of proportion, and he hated it, and has more than atoned for it. I think he’s a pretty sharp guy, and probably the best person for the job.
On the other hand, dismissing being a Hitler Youth member out of hand is tantamount to the old “I was just following orders” routine. The guys who were hanged (yes, it’s “hanged,” not “hung”) after the Nuremberg trials were also “just following orders,” as you recall.
Like I said, I’m not jumping on his case – that was a LONG time ago, and he is NOT a Nazi sympathizer – never has been. I just thought it was interesting what different lives Karol Wojtyla and Joseph Ratzinger lived during WW2.
