I saw Batman Begins over the weekend, and it was awesome – leagues better than any of the previous (there was actually acting and character development). I’m all hyped for the sequel and hope they bring back Batman’s main nemesis, the Joker. I wonder who should play him, though. Besides being too old, I think Jack Nicholson just had too much cool to be the Joker. Actually, the previous choice for the Riddler, Jim Carrey, would have been a better fit.

BTW, the rumor of who Nolan is looking to cast could be controversial if true.
I think they need to bring back Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow as well. Scarecrow was always one of the more interesting villians. as for who plays the joker, why not Edward Norton?

Well, Victor Zsaz was the scarred guy in Arkham, so he’ll be there eventually.

The Joker’s a pretty strange guy, really, and I think deserves a pretty strange casting. I liked Nicholson’s Joker well enough, but he was a tad too bulky for the character.

A new character could be the Joker’s wife played by Cameron Diaz. Thats a jokers smile if I’ve ever seen one.
Hmm, it would have to be someone with a laugh. What kind of laugh? Well, O I KNOW THE GREEN GOBLIN FROM SPIDERMAN! THAT LAUGH! Sorry, random brainstorm. However, now that I think about it, that would be a good laugh, but that laugh sounds too old. I would think that the Joker’s laugh would be much younger. WAIT! TIM CURRY! Okay, I think that this warrants an explanation. First off, has anyone ever seen the movie IT? The one based on the Stephen King novel? Well, Tim Curry played the evil demon Pennywise the Dancing Clown, and he had a great evil laugh. So yeah, Tim Curry would be a good candidate.
Now remember, because of the amount of makeup that would be involved with the Joker’s costume, there really isn’t that much of a need for someone who looks the part since any special effects team can make the Joker visible. That means that the thing that counts is the voice, especially the laugh. As long as they have the JOHN KERRY! Arg, another brainstorm. Anyways, as long as they have the correct evil laugh, then everything should work out okay.

I’m gonna get flamed to expletive for this but I actually thought the movie was kind of G*y with all the a-typical ninja junk and Bale’s over the top, tough-guy batman voice. The one with Val kilmer was the best, just the right balance of darkness and campy 70’s humor.
Actually on subject though, I think that Mark Hamill is an awesome idea for the Joker and it would be good to see him in front of the camera again.

I will not use my hard-earned capitalist exploitation units to support the career of one of the most despicable men this nation has ever seen. That’s why I have yet to see Mystic River, which I understand is a good movie.

I loved Mark Hamill in the animated series, but he may be too old to play the Joker in live action. I think Sean Penn would be a great choice. After all, few actors in Hollywood are as crazy as Penn.
I totally agree. It should be Mark Hammill. He already did a GREAT job with the voice of Joker in the cartoon series, and with all that make-up, you can make him look young again!

I want to see Mark Hamill get the role of Joker, just because he does the voice so well on the cartoon, and plus maybe people could stop making fun of him for his crappy post-Star Wars career. Crispin Glover (he’ll always be “McFly” to me) seems to be the most mentioned name for the Joker, after Mark Hamill.
I would like to see Harley Quinn in a Batman movie. She’s my favorite character from the cartoon. Of course, she’d probably suck in a live action movie, but whatever.

I never stopped to think about whether Jack Nicholson was too short, tall, stocky, whatever to play The Joker. The line he delivers: “Where does he get those WONDERFUL toys???” with his facial expressions was AWESOME. Jack’s one of the greatest actors alive.
I loved Jack’s delivery. But overall, I think the character was written too… sane, in the original.
The Joker has to be a “It’s Thursday, let’s kill all the henchmen” type.

Villian with an Arabic name (Ra’s Al-Ghul) with insane desire to see the collapse of American civilization, having “America’s Greatest City” of Gotham (or the alternate name for New York) as a target, and a plan to take out the city’s landmark building (Wayne Towers) with a civilian mode of transportation. And then you hae Gordan’s last comment on what would happen if the villians escalate the problem, to which Bats replies that they’ll just have to come up with something better.
In other words, Sean Penn would probably want nothing to do with this.
