Right now, I’m in my office working on a Saturday afternoon, but, I just got a call from my brother, Sgt. Joe foo’ the Marine, and he’s now in North Carolina enjoying his first beer in over half a year.
Mmm… delayed beer.
First?
I remember my first beer after Gulf War I. The kindest people I’ve ever met in…oh, somewhere in New England. Someone help me here…sounds like Westover or something like that. We were only on the ground for a few hours, so can’t remember…senility bites. Anyway, we flew back, still dusty and carrying our weapons (mine was my trusty M-16) and it was about 7:00 in the morning (0700 for us military types) and if you wanted a beer it cost you a hug. If you wanted a hot dog or a hamburger it cost you a hug. These kind people were out in force to welcome us back home and I can never thank them enough. And yes, there were and are sailors on the ground.
FrankJ.,
You have to let him post a message here when he’s able. I’m sure many here share my sentiments when I say “Thank You!” to him! I, for one, would love to hear from him, what his time there was like, etc.
Glad to hear he’s back and safe!
For the record, I am prior military but I served between Gulf War I and Operation Iraqi Freedom (Gulf War II?) Sounds like the wedding’s a “GO!” now that you have your best man!
Please tell your brother, “Semper Fi! Welcome home Marine!” Also say thank you for the excellent job he is a part of. I’ll slap a tree hugging hippie to mark this joyous occasion.
Art,
I think he said Coors Light since they were trying to start out those returning slow (normally, my brother wouldn’t be caught dead drinking that). I’ll treat him to a Guiness next time I see him.

Congrats on the safe return of your brother.
Frank, please thank your brother on behalf of all of us.
Welcome back, Foo’!

Thanks to your brother Frank, and all our soldiers, past and present.

What kind of beer was it? Just a guess it wasn’t Guinness.
