I keep getting e-mail from Democrats.com (unaffiliated with the DNC), and they are pretty much the most idiotic things you’ve ever seen. They’re obviously aimed at twenty point IQ Democrat partisans, but I kinda get the feeling that the people who write these e-mails are a bit smarter than that and realize how stupid they’re ideas are. Like maybe they’re just writing these letters to rile up the howler monkey left to somehow make money or maybe this is all some Republican ploy to give stupid Dems busy work to do.
Anyway, the latest e-mail was entitled “Don’t Let Bush Pardon Himself”, and I clicked on it as I was kinda curious how one would prevent the president from exercising his Constitutional powers if he felt the need to pardon himself from whatever crimes they imagined he did. Their answer: an internet petition. Yes, the useless political activity since the invention of politics — the internet petition — is going to somehow stop Bush from pulling a piece of paper out of his desk and writing himself up a pardon.
I have a useful idea: Locate everyone dumb enough to sign that petition and sterilize them.
Sterilizing them is something I can get behind. I even have a few Rusty soup can lids to use in aid of the cause.
First of all, maybe those morons should realize that the president has no power to pardon himself, hence Clinton’s impeachment on perjury charges..
Second: How is he supposed to pardon himself when he didn’t do anything illegal…
“Their answer…”
Yeah well the fact that he’s part of the GOP makes everything he does Illegal, including breathing. And his imposing hurricane Katrina on New Orleans was a pre-meditated attack which is definitely illegal. As a matter of fact he breathed and that’s illegal too.
I agree. They do not need to pollute the gene pool
We should have a contest and start more of these rumors! I hear Obama is secretly a Cheney plant programmer by Halliburtan to continue the Bush/Cheney policies once in office…Muwahahahahaha!!!!
Art 2, Sec 2 of the Constitution prohibits pardon in the case of impeachment only, but Clinton was not convicted…that is why he could not pardon himself. Bush can’t pardon himself because he hasn’t been convicted of a crime. No President can proactively pardon himself (or anyone else for that matter) for a future event.
[Especially if you signed an internet petition! -Ed.]
> Locate everyone dumb enough to sign that petition and sterilize them.
Where do I sign the Internet petition to do that?
#7 No One says:
… No President can proactively pardon himself (or anyone else for that matter) for a future event.
Nixon was never convicted of a crime. Ford issued a pardon to the 37th President on September 8, 1974 (the same day Evel Knievel tried to jump the Snake River Canyon).
What we need is an internet petition to end internet partitions, which, if it brought about its stated purpose of ending internet petitions, would be cool in a way that even hip urban white folks and retarded democrats would appreciate.
Basil, yes Ford issued a pardon, but for what is not clear. Obviously, his desire to have the whole affair just end motivated the pardon, and absent any other constitutional means to do so, he must have felt (at the time) that a pardon was appropriate. In later years, however, Ford referred to an earlier SCOTUS decision that essentially said that when one accepts a pardon, one is tacitly admitting to guilt. It stands to reason that if he used this as his defense, he must have realized that a preemptive pardon was not valid in the absence of a crime having been committed. And legally speaking, a crime has not been committed unless proven in court, either by confession of the accused or by the prosecution making a case “beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Yes. Let’s sterilize them…in boiling water.
I’d like to start an Internet Petition which stops Internet Petitions about Internet Petitions related to Internet Petitions. Is that kind of like Al Jazeera looking up Arafat’s ass? An asshole, peering into an asshole of an asshole? It can really become quite philiqueersome!
#10 GiantJellyFishKiller says: “hip urban white folks and retarded democrats”
That is redundant redundant. I like it.
Careful with that sterilizing people for internet petitions. I have received more than a few e-mail petitions from well meaning conservatives. They ask you to add your name and e-mail, and then forward the e-mail to 10 people. Once there are 100 names, you are supposed to forward it to the POTUS. Useless! After 10 seconds of searching, the e-mails usually turn out to have their very own Snopes page. Adding your name to an e-mail and forwarding it is useless from a practical standpoint. If you want to have an impact, the e-mail should provide contact info for our elected idiots and direct each recipient to call or write said idiots.
Wow. That is one awkwardly worded paragraph. Sorry.
