  1. I’ll forego the reference to libertarians; this doesn’t seem the right comment string for that. I’m fortunate enough that, although some of my family have served, they all came home alive, and I thank God for that. This is a day, however, for remembering those who didn’t come home alive. I’ll never be called upon to advance while being fired upon. I’ll never have to decide whether to jump on a grenade to save others. I thank God for those things.

    This is a day, however, for remembering those who did the right thing in situations like that, and paid with their lives. I thank God for them.

A brimming pint of Guinness, sporting the narrowest of “bishop’s collar” heads, hoist in humble honor of those hardstripes who advanced under fire…a hearty shot of Bushmills tossed back in honor of the officers, in the muck with their soldiers, who sought to lead their men to the best of their abilities.

    God, truly, gentles their souls.
