A college in Virginia changed the name of its school newspaper from “The Bullet” saying it “propagated violence”.
Man… I’m glad I don’t work for the Toledo Blade right now.

Wait a second… they are changing the name to “The Blue & Gray Press” because “The Bullet” is too violent? Do they not realize what the pairing of blue & gray references?
More on the topic, when the NBA team in DC changed its name from Bullets to Wizards, they pointed to gun violence. Considering it’s DC, you kinda have to wonder if they had a point, although I’m not sure if the name of the basketball team would influence the murder rate.
It used to be called Mary Washington College but recently changed their name to The University of Mary Washington. Hmm…where’s Mary Washington? South of Washington, or West of Maryland?
So I’d say they have somewhat of a history of unfortunate decisions when it comes to names. When something doesn’t work for you, try the same thing elsewhere and do it harder. That’s academia for you.
They did that with all the schools around here (all…536475 of them) turns out you get paid more when it’s called a ‘university’ vs a ‘college’ and I assume they can also charge more.

They decided to just shorten it to “The Bull”. I must admit it does sound more appropriate.
In the early ’80s a local university changed the name of its paper from the erudite, if obscure, Fountainhead, to the prosaic East Carolinian.
