Great news: At the start of 2015, workers in twenty states saw an increase to the minimum wage. http://ofa.bo/q2Mr #RaiseTheWage
“Other news: low-wage workers in twenty states just got priced out of a job, while some businesses folded completely under the increased cost of labor.”

and if you were already making more than the minimum you probably got no raise at all.
In 20 states, the number of people making the minimum wage just went up.
In 20 states, inflation just went up. The cost of a loaf of bread just went up 20 cents.
and to pay for it, those same 20 states saw a decrease in the number of people working, it’s ok though, now they get more than minimum wage by not working.
Hmmm… suppose welfare payments were indexed to oh, say, 80% of whatever a minimum wage worker working a 40 hour week earned?
If minimum wage were $10/hour, a minimum wage worker would earn $20,800/year.
A welfare recipient would get $16,640.
There would at least be SOME incentive to get ones arse up off the couch and look for a job, wouldn’t there?
We haven’t eliminated poverty, we just made it easier to stay poor.
