  1. Brandy-up some fresh fruit (including figs) and sugar in a large crock for a month+ and then make it. It’ll be even better. Learned the trick from my Irish mother. Plus, you’ll have brandied fruit left over for ice cream and even as a cereal topping.

    Oh, darn. I’m hungry now.
