Monday Night Open Thread

You ever read the book “Dracula?” Sure, you know about the story, but if you were like me, you knew from vampire movies. Not the sparkly vampire movies, but real vampire movies. I was familiar with the character of Dracula from various media apart from the book, but decided to actually read the book several years ago — 30 to 40 years back — and was surprised by it. I found it boring. It was that writing style of a story told as a collection of letters and journal entries that I didn’t like. Maybe it was just a bad time for me when I read it.

Anyway, I read it. And I was surprised how different it was from what I was familiar from movies and such. That got me wondering if any movie was close to the book. Well, I wasn’t going to watch a bunch of Dracula movies and have to read that book again. But thanks to the Internets, someone else did that for me.

  1. Regarding the video:
-I like his Angry Video Game Nerd character despite his potty mouth.

-I never finished reading Dracula because the correspondence story telling style was too tedious, I just didn’t have the patience. Maybe some day

-I really wanted to like the FF Coppola version but couldn’t handle the fake British accent of Neo. I don’t think I finished that either.

-I saw Billy the Kid vs. Dracula just last Saturday.

-My kid’s high school marching band did a Dracula halftime show a couple of years ago that was awesome. We made about 12 coffins for the show. They were so well built some of the parents wanted to keep them for personal use “when they close their eyes for good” h/t Cage the Elephant.
