In a post where Michelle Malkin links to SarahK’s and my silly little story, she has a link to a blogger getting harassed and arrested for legally possesing a gun by a cop who seems to have a chip on his shoulder. Everyone check it out and help in anyway you can.
UPDATE: Just to be clear, I’m not trying to be anti-police officer. I’ve known many good ones throughout my years, and my dad almost was one. I know the pressures of the job can get to any good man, but this incident seems like clear harassment with no suspicion of any real wrong-doing.

I hate droids. They live to boss people around. Usually they’re too dumb to get into the Police Dept., usually getting stuck as security guards, but sometimes they manage it. Glad our local PD has such nice officers.
What a sad story. I gave a little to help his defense, its hard to do this time of year, but I thought what if it were SarahK dealing w/that jerk of a policeman? Thanks for the link.

I have a CHL in Texas, half the time when im pulled over cops get jittery when I give them my CHL the other half let me off without a ticket or warning.
…Well, my day started off pretty well until I read that account on Fish Or Man. Now I’m really pissed. FrankJ, y’all gotta deliver some funny so I stop seeing red!
Yeah, that story really aggravated me too. Argh. I’m so glad I moved out of the Northwest, they’re going nuts up there!
Mt. St. Helens and the San Andreas fault line could take care of that for us…Just take the wacko part of the country and either send them off to sea or bury them in lava.
Unfortunately, Mr. FishorMan has an all-uphill battle ahead of him. I was in a Case that involved possession about 10 yrs ago. Most charges were dropped after I threatened Police brutality and unlawful detainment. In the end, all they stuck me with was a “careless driving” charge and some community service, but I never got anything back. In hindsight, served me right for sassin’ back at a cop. (Being at the wrong place at the wrong time didn’t help either.) It sucks real bad, but you HAVE to play by THEIR rules. The Judge almost always sides with the cops (they’re buddy-buddy afterall). You can argue the “stand-up for citizen rights” all you want, and you’re right–.but in the end, The Man still has you. Also, PLEASE remember–.that there are a LOT of good cops out there. But sometimes you get stuck and have to deal with the not-so-good ones. Also remember that cops get jaded dealing with actual criminals all the time, so when they’re in a situation with a law-abiding citizen who Appears to be breaking the law, an officer’s judgment may be impaired. Yes, I know it’s wrong–but you have to remember that when dealing with the police.
I would like to say that my dad is a retired paramedic after 28 years, and I grew up knowing many cops. Most are really good cops, but every once in a while you get a “special” cop. There was one who was telling my dad about the time I was turning 16 that he pulls over kids he sees driving (teens) then figures out a charge after pulling them over. After all, they’re teenagers, they must be up to no good, so may as well bust them. Like getting Capone on tax evasion.
I’d also like to point out that most people don’t feel the need to share a good cop story. It’s only the bad ones we talk about because who cares that you got pulled over, the cop was really cool, and you went on your merry way a few bucks shorter from the ticket. So for every bad cop story, there are probably about 100 good cop stories that never get told. They’re there to protect, and most see it as exactly that. It’s a few power hungry bad apples that give a bad name to the rest of the police.
Ok, I see several things that you all need to realize from the FishorMan story. I am a police officer. I can see where all the venom is leading, and you need to think this out as Conservative thinkers, not Liberal Knee-jerkers. Look at the blog where he describes his driving. He hung back behind the Deputy and only sped up after he saw the Deputy exiting the highway. Officers see that, and in certain areas, it is deemed as suspicious. The deputy pulled off in order to get behind him, run his plates, and see what he could see. After following and running the plates, it seems a warrant for, surprise, illegal carrying of a weapon. read into that story, and the man was carrying in a BANK. Read all of his comments and things he has said in all the stories. All of them have the common elements of him getting stopped and asked about the weapon. He then gets defensive and starts being a smarta$$. I have run into his type before, and will tell you that they love to push your buttons. Reading the stories and seeing his reactions, mr. FishorMan is in for a rough road ahead of him, because of his contempt and treatment of persons that are just doing their jobs and trying to keep the peace.
I’m just always hesitent to believe a story like this. People always think that the “man” is harrassing people and startin’ shit. It’s conventional wisdom. We know it happens (thought we’ve never seen it) or something happened to one of us one time that we blew out of proportion.
Every time someone tells me a story like this, I dig a little deeper, and find out that there is something they’re not telling me.
I don’t know though, it could be true. I imagine the guy was being a prick and the police officer decided to be a prick back and took it too far. Personally, I keep firearms in the trunk.

I live about 2 hours from the courthouse where he gets his first appearance. I plan to be there to observe in person what I can and try to determine whether he deserves my support, sympathy, or scorn.
Frankly I don’t know what to make of this story. I’m gonna wait and see what other facts present themselves.
I have no sympathy for this guy. I think he’s getting what he deserves. From his explanation on http://fishorman.blogspot.com/2004/06/details-20_02.html he says “…today would be a good day to exercise this right..”. How pathetic. He was looking for an occasion to test the system and grade it according to his agenda. I assume he felt the need to carry the weapon because he was going to withdraw a large amount of cash for his wifes travel. (That’s the only reason that I can see.) But there are other smarter, safer, less controversial ways to ensure your safety than to walk around the farmers market, the bank, and then the store carrying cash and a weapon.
I hope he likes his new cellmate.
