The New York Times has come out with a even dumber attack against McCain questioning whether he can legally be president since he was born on an Air Force base in Panama… even though it’s been settled law since 1790 about what constitutes native citizenship. Anyway, a Hot Air commenter had a great bon mot about that which deserves special feature.

I personally would use it to line my bird cage, if I had one. Of course that would be cruelty to animals as someone previously pointed out.

I just don’t see how a socially-conscious organization like the New York Times can continue to use billions of tons of paper when there are billions of people throughout the world that don’t have enough paper to wipe their ass.

I was born in Alaska in 1956 (before it became a state) at Elmendorf AFB. I’ve always been under the impression that I am and have always been an American citizen.
That said, I say we go ahead and disqualify McCain and give we conservatives the chance to elect our own candidate (instead of the media and democrats choice)!

I’d gladly give up my citizenship for a time to get a real leader in there. And if, Obama or Hillary gets in there… maybe I’ll stay ‘not a citizen’ a little longer.

In 1964, the late but not lamented ambulance-chaser Melvin Belli alleged that Barry Goldwater wasn’t eligible to be President because he had been born in Arizon before it became a state in 1912. This is somewhat reminiscent of that; some people and some publications will do anything to get attention.
The relevant passage from the Constitution states, “No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.” It doesn’t say that you have to be born within the United States; it says that you have to be “a natural born Citizen”, which Senator McCain certainly is and Senator Goldwater certainly was.
