Interesting.
In the above Obama campaign commercial, he criticizes McCain’s proposed summer gas tax holiday because it would only save “about 25, 30 dollars”.
His point being, I suppose, that such a piddly little savings would make zero difference in the lives of those on the receiving end.
Which may be true of politicians whose net worth stretches into the 7 digit range, but for working schlubs like me, that money means I get to live the Dollar Menunaire lifestyle for a solid month.
But if $25-$30 is so insignificant, why is it that when Obama’s campaign site asks for contributions, not only is $25 one of the options, so is $10.
He needs a new campaign commercial:
“So, I’m here to tell you the truth. I could collect tiny campaign contributions for 6 months, but that’s not going to get me to the White House. Donations of 25 or 30 dollars? That’s like half a tank of gas.” [supporters in the crowd snicker]
“That’s typical of how small-town gun-&-religion-clinging racists work. There’s a problem, they’re upset about campaign prices — let’s find some short-term, quick-fix, that we can say we did something, even though were not really doing anything.” [Audience full of rich white people nods in approval]. “I cannot be delivered into the White house unless we change how fund-raising is done in America. I’ve got to go out to the oil companies and threaten them with ‘price-gouging’ investigations so that they’ll write big, fat checks to my campaign to get me to call off the dogs”
“And the little people have got to start using less oil so they can afford to start sending me big, fat checks, too. That’s the real honest answer to how I’m going to solve this problem.” [standing ovation] “That’s what you need from a President… someone who’s going to tell you the truth.”
I agree, Barack. Is $25 significant, or is it nothing? Tell us the truth.

I think a gas tax holiday would have potential for becoming permanent. And we all know how much democrats hate tax cuts, especially permanent tax cuts.
I could use an extra $30. Why not cut the tax and still do your thing, Mr. Obama?
He’s got it all wrong. The solution isn’t more government, it is less government. Relax the government ban on new refineries and nuclear power plants. That will be a lot more useful than fuel efficency regulation.
Obama cringes visibly any time the phrase “cutting taxes” comes up. I have a feeling he is more in the raise-the-gas-tax-until-people-have-to-ride-bicycles camp. Expect to see a quick raise to $8/gallon gas prices if he is elected.
It’s really funny, because I saw it on the news, and he started his sentence with something like “The tax holiday idea won’t work because it’s just a temporary measure to make it look like we’re doing something when we’re really doing nothing”. My jaw hit the floor — here was Obama saying something that’s actually quite astute and accurate. Then, of course, he finished his sentence with something about how we need to live like cavemen, and the universe returned to normal. Still, that was a pretty creepy 10 or 20 seconds.
Those options aren’t for 10 and 25 dollars, you melatonin-deprived cracker! They are for 10 or 25 cracker skins, which we in the half-black community abbreviate as “$”.
Most Americans would dive into a dumpster full of liver flukes and goat entrails for 25 or 30 bucks.
Tax revolt !!!!1!!1!1!11!1!!1

Now I feel as smart as Barack Obama.
Good point, Frank! Senators spill more than $25.00 of crack on the night stand each morning before they get out of bed to pay off the hooker so how can they be expected to “get it”?
Does Obama realize that Canada is its major importer of oil and that it might have some problems with his plans. President Obama, meet Prime Minister Harper (does O know ye Canada does not have “presidents”?) and try renegotiating NAFTA and oil production. He’ll tell you the truth.
#5 –
Mr. Obama, I think you meant “melanin-deprived cracker” in addressing these Fascist White Americans. Melatonin-deprived would indicate that said crackers are sleepy or suffering from SAD.
Either condition I think would be another good Victimized Group for a government handout, don’t you think?
Don’t you be tellin’ me what I meant, cracker! Melatonin is the half-black word for what The Man calls melanin – kind of like how them extra-pasty crackers in England call aluminum “aluminium”.
I would like to apologize to all you bitter crackers for my husband’s righteous half-black rage…except I can’t because you racists all deserve it!
#3 – Your comment sent a cold shiver through me because that’s exactly what the pleasure police do every time they raise taxes on cigarettes and tobacco products.
1. Declare it harmful,
2. pretend to punish the producers,
3. stick it to the users and
4. rake in the money at each step in the process.
Gasoline is tobacco, Hybrid and alternate fuel vehicles are like the patch and nicotine gum. They’re already threatening to go to step 2. Increased gas taxes is inevitable!
My wife is a 2 and a half packs a day smoker and after mortgage and car payments our largest monthly expendature is feeding her habit. If gas goes the same way … I saw a classified ad where some guy is selling a 12 year old horse cheap. If I can’t ride it to work I suppose we can eat it.
What could I do with thirty extra dollars?
Buy an extra hi-capacity mag for my new pistol.
Buy a savings bond, thus doing my small part to stabilize the American dollar, and thus help bring down the price of gas.
Buy a conservative book off the list of books that the Canadian Human Rights Committees want to see burned in large bonfires in the name of socialism.
Buy a couple boxes of ammo, for plinking at the range.
See $30 can go a long way.
Ah, Canada…the land of unfettered buggering and persecution of the church for saying something about it! Lovely!
Addendum: I forgot step 5, ban the use of the product in as many places as possible, while never actually outlawing it.
Mandatory gas mileage regulations, car pool lanes, raising emmission standards … it’s closer than I thought. Heeere horsey, horsey, horsey!
Yeah, yeah, it’s only $30 – hardly worth the trouble, isn’t it?
Well, then, it should hardly be worth the trouble when they want to raise my taxes by $30, too. Let’s have the politicians make do without the $30.
