A Glaring Omission

Derbyshire has an article about how 1979 is perhaps one of the most pivotal year in modern history, but completely neglects to mention the most significant event of that year: me being born.
I expect more from him…

  1. Thanks. You’re the same age as my youngest daughter. With my luck, she’s probably older than you.
Thanks again for making me feel like a fossil.

  2. He mentions you here…”In 25 years a new cohort of humanity is born, grows to maturity, and begins to accomplish things in the world.”
Now you just have to start to accomplish something…hehehe…just kidding. I didn’t even grow up for another five years.

  3. That’s also the year I graduated from high school in central PA, where I lived 10 miles away from….
Three-Mile-Island, which had a famous accident in 1979 that doomed nuclear power in America. That’s pretty significant.

  4. photos this weekend, The Maximum Leader! well, that’s when i’ll take them, Frank will get them and need to choose.
buy the tshirts anyway! then when you see the photos you can buy them again.
Frank, i’m only 3 years older than you, at least we were born in the same decade. where’s his article on 1976? that was stinking important.

  5. Geez Frank, nothing like making me feel like an old geezer (1956)! All I can say is hey you punks, get the hell off my grass! Damn kids! Dang, where did all those years go? Let this be a lesson to you youngsters out there about the evils of sex, drugs, alcohol and rock ‘n roll. Crap, somebody get me a beer!

  6. 1979 is also the year that I turned 8, which is significant because… umm… I think I might have gotten a set of cowboy cap guns that year, fueling my life long love affair with firearms, and my hope to someday shoot a terrorist.

  7. Happy Birthday in advance, Frank; I probably won’t be posting that weekend (I just closed today and I’ll be moving then).
James Old Guy, why only offer him the ugly one?

  8. Happy early B-Day, Frank. But you don’t have to return the greetings, since I was born in 1965 and really don’t want to remember mine anymore (I can see you counting up the years there)…All of you are BABIES…but somebody is rearing you right, all of you sweet, conservative, Bush-loving, right-winging cuties!!!! Go and kiss your Mamas right now and tell her thank you…the future looks bright!

  9. Not nearly Jonag. Apparently I have 20 years on Frank.
And I would have guessed far fewer years for you, based on your tshirt babe entry. On the other hand, I would have guessed a little higher because of your graciousness.
Dudes, that one was free. For those of you with children:
I think my kids got their good looks from me. Their mom still has hers.
I can’t believe I’m just giving this stuff away.

  10. Yeah, I was right. She’s January 24.
I can feel my arteries petrifying. And I was born on the fourteenth anniversary of the start of WWII. No, not when they invaded Poland, when Britain and France declared war.

  11. In particular, the month of June in 1979 is the most important of all – to be even more specific, the 11th of june – to be insanely specific – 6:35am, on the 11th of June in the year of 1979 is the most important minute in history. 🙂

  12. Thanks Greywolf and Dave in Texas for making me feel better. 1979! I was wearing very bad fashion and enjoying really good music in 1979. I like that I was born in 68′. It was a cool year. Protests, drugs, music, drugs, and more music. Good times. And drugs. Which explains why I find this website so funny. Cat sleds! bahhhhh.

  13. Just when I was starting to feel old (just moved in to my own house- so I’m only renting, but it’s still mine! finished a year of college, etc.) Frank and the Ronins make me feel all better…
    1985 was a good year indeed 🙂

  14. Yikes! I graduated high school in 1979!
Congrats on your closing NonyMouse! Have fun moving.
Back ontopic, just counted it up the other day: I’ve MOVED 25 times in my life!
And another bad anniversary, the Madrid train bombings happend on my birthday this year. 🙁
