My cable company finally got HD Tivo (DVR, that is) boxes, and I just got one yesterday. It is the coolest thing in the history of the universe. 1080i HD recorded with 5.1 surround sound for whenever I want to watch it. Even Sydney loves the new cable box and has been sleeping on it for an hour now.
I’m going to go smash my VCR with a sledgehammer now.

Want to film yourself smashing the VCR? Could be a laugh.
you’ll end up with cat hair all in your DVR box. we need to go get you an entertainment center, meaning i pick it out and you buy it. 🙂
hehe, Frank wears the trousers in that house… SarahK just tells him which ones =/
Heh, good call, General.
When my honey is doing the dishes he looks especially cute in khaki chinos.
Frank;
Since you were so short sighted and armed the T-Babe, I suggest you do what she says…1) you have to sleep sometime, and 2) if you wait until later, the prices will have gone up, and she’ll make you buy it then anyhow
But, if you’re smart, you’re reading this after you have already moved the new enteratinment center in, and all the stuff is plugged up.
Did the HD Tivo survive the war?
See http://mountaineermusing.com for context.
Sorry you lost for now, but there will be counter attacks right?

Doing the dishes? I’d look cute in a lawn and leaf bag, as long as I was doing the dishes!
VCRs have gone the way of the 8-track. CDs are next.
Are you kidding? CDs are gone, man. I loved my mp3-CD player for a loooong time—until I got an iPod for Christmas that is.
Let’s just say that until my primary hard drive went kablooie this morning, I was ripping CDs to mp3 like crazy.
STOP, MAN! SAVE THE VCR! READ THE INSTRUCTIONS TO YOUR NEW TOY! IF YOU FILL THE HARDDRIVE ON IT, YOU CAN DOWNLOAD SHOWS YOU WANT TO SAVE BY COPYING FROM TOY TO VCR. VCR STILL HAS A FUNCTION, UNLESS YOU HAVE A WAY TO HOOK UP A SPARE HARDDRIVE TO THE DVR TO EXPAND ITS MEMORY, GIVE THE VCR A TEMPORARY PARDON, AT LEAST! “WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!”
if you smash it.. we want pics…
The Sledge will fix that blinking 12:00
Sean
Although it’s strictly meant to be used for computer equipment I think I could lend Frank J my “IT Wand”[shadowknot.org]
…Trying desperately to scour the image of Dave in Texas in a lawn and leaf bag out of mind….oh help!
Funny as always. Thanx.
What twolaneflash said, plus: save the VCR until you convert any old VHS tapes you want to save (personal ones, or movies that aren’t on DVD nor likely to go there). Then smash away.
Hey, mine just added it too! I’m on hold to get it right now. Since I got the 63″ flat-screen 3rd-gen DLP TV, I’ve been waiting impatiently for either the idiot Tivo company or my idiot cable company to FINALLY give me HD DVR cable options. Well, idiot cable won the race (if they ever answer my call).
Hope I can get the SB…
Also, I got the Vonage phone, and I would have to say it rocks. $25/mo, unlimited.
Heh…I guess I shouldn’t feel bad that I still have my top-loading Beta machine…
how portable is it? if you recorded something really cool could you take it next door and show it?
Don’t use a sledgehammer. You need to do something productive with the VCR. Roof Test it.
Isn’t today National Beat a Hippie for the Gipper Day? Ye Flipping gods, and here it’s 4:00 and i don’t have patchouli on me fists yet. I gotta go.
What about a KTE: VCRs (and other seemingly outdated technology)?
Sarah has already figured it out; Sydney hates the DVR and has already formed an insidious plot to destroy it.
Sure, it was easy to figure out, but she’s just a kitten. Imagine how insidious the plots will be when she’s fully grown. You need a dog to thwart her eeeevil cat plans.
hey, if I was scrubbing pots Jonag, you’d think it was coo.
