Remember: Average Movie Tickets=$10

From a previous post you know that I am going to see the new Star Wars movie but only because I’m not directly paying for the ticket. The company I work for at my day job is paying, but that doesn’t mean that George Lucas is somehow not being paid for me to see his probably very crappy movie…
…nothing’s free, pal. The only way I could get away with denying Lucas money is to buy a ticket for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy at the multiplex and then sit down in the theater showing Episode III. That’s not gonna happen because my company has already paid for the tickets and my “pay for the Hitch; ditch the Sith” idea didn’t go over very well with the HR people at the company.
I know that Lucas is a rich limo lefty that has hated Republicans since his film school days in the 1970s and that makes me want to avoid contributing to any affirmation on his so-called art with a projected $120 million box office weekend.
My only consolation is to know that the only reason why his last three movies have had box office success is the fact that the average movie ticket is five to ten times what it was twenty years ago (thankfully we haven’t seen that same kind of inflation rate on bread, milk, or computers).
Yeah, it’s not much of a consolation, but unless every IMAO fan is willing to deny Lucas his cash by purchasing a ticket to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy this weekend and then walk into Episode III, I’ll have to take what I can get.

  1. actually, I have a much easier way of denying money to that loonie limo leftie …. I won’t pay for admittance at all, and I won’t buy the DVD … at least not at retail. If I’m determined to have it (which is pretty doggone unlikely … I haven’t seen Episode I yet), I’ll buy it from one of the internet sites selling previously viewed stuff … denying Lucas any income (from me).

  2. I paid Lucas for my pre-ticket last thursday for the showing at 12:01 this morning. I plan on paying him a couple more times so I can see E-III at a theater with a bigger screen than the one in my small town.
I guess it’s my way of showing bipartisan support for the arts. GL is still not quite so bad as Fatass.

  3. It’s odd how the political overtones in episode one weren’t publicized like this when that planet was invaded because sissy leader said that she wanted to give more time for negotiations. Hah i guess those robots showed her what happens when you try to negotiate with evil without backing it up with some firepower.

  4. Just returned from the movie and spent the money and regretting it. My son and I played hookie today to watch Star Wars III. Star Wars III kind of sucked. Lots of great special effects but nothing earth shattering or moving. In some sad way it was even more of a disappointment than the other two … I allowed my hopes to be raised with this one. What is even more shocking my 13 year old son didn’t like it. He is now sitting on sofa looking like he has nothing else to live for. Maybe I should get him one of those fancy light sabers to cheer him up. The only thing I am left with is hating George Lucas for all that stupid politcal sh*t that has been coming out of his mouth … idiot. I have theory … did George Lucas know it was crap and said all that political crap to gain the favor of the media?

  5. I’m just glad E-III kicked E-II’s 455 and especially pwned E-I. That’s really all that mattered to fans like me who had lost all hope. I guess I can say that it wasn’t as bad as many skeptics thought it might be.

  6. I’ll probably go see it – but I’ll be using the $6.99 discount tickets I picked up at Costco…
…same as I did with Hitchhiker, which I actually liked. I’m an unabashed romantic, so having Trillian and Arthur more or less together at the end was fine with me.

  7. Quote:
Hitchhiker’s Guide isn’t much better with Zaphod imititating Bush.

Yeah, but you could also consider the Vogon’s to be representing John Kerry. I know that isn’t very fair to the Vogon’s, but still…

  8. I think George Lucas is just trying to hide his true political leanings with all the garbage he is saying. When I was listening to Palpatine when I saw Revenge of the Sith, I kept thinking of Kerry and Edwards. Seriously. Liberals are stupid so they won’t notice.

  9. You could always revel in the fact that your ticket purchase continues to turn the crank of the great free market machine, and that only in a market such as ours could such movies be made.

  10. Anyone who hates Star Wars SUCKS!
This was easily the best of the first trilogy, and rivals anything after the original film.
Sometimes, you have to let the politics thing go. Leftists were all in a collective hissy fit over the “racism” in Episode 1. The real problem was that the characters weren’t well done.
Honestly, anyone who is disappointed in ANY of the Star Wars films is only comparing them to the excellence of the others. Nothing else made by Hollywood even comes close. NOTHING.
    END.OF.DISCUSSION.
