You know, I’ve never actually seen the “Serenity Now!” episode of Seinfeld. I need to buy more of those season on DVD.
Anyway, go here to (legally) watch the first nine minutes of the movie Serenity. Then be so intrigued you go to the theaters and watch the whole thing.
I want a sequel, people! Work with me!
(Actually, I think the movie starts slow since the beginning doesn’t involve the main cast, but it’s still cool.)
You like Seinfeld??? Suddenly my opinion of you has plummeted ๐
Charles.
face it — the dream of a sequal is over — it has only made $18M, and it’s numbers are plummetting — maybe the scifi channel will try to do something with it on the cheap
Yeah, they lost money on that movie. I think it cost them $40 or $50M to make, and they’ve only drawn in $18M. Those numbers are abysmal.
It’s really sad. Their problem is, the reavers make the movie really gory. It’s not the type of thing you’d want to go with, say, you’re girlfriend to see.
I expected them to at least do better than they did though. I mean, they’re not competing against very good movies.
Anyway, I’m sad ๐
I don’t want a sequel. I want a prequel (covering some of the time between the series end and the movie’s beginning.
No, I don’t relly even want a prequel. I want it back on television.
I think with hard sci-fi, you’re always going to have a limited audience. I thought the movie was pretty good, but it’s obviously tailored to fans of the show, which is a mistake. Not that I have anything against Serenity fans, or think it should have veered as far away from the book as, say, Starship Troopers. But cinematic adaptations of books or TV shows need to appeal to a broader audience. And if you weren’t a fan of Firefly, you were definately missing a lot.
No I want the second 9 minutes!
no = now
Actually, (and I know it is still a pitance) The total made on this movie is $22,326,794 counting other contries. (so far that is Australia, Portugal & the UK.) It still has quite a few other countries to open in so I just prefer not to be all Miss Negativity yet.
I Want my Big Damn Sequel!
Yeah, the movie is fading fast in US markets, maybe Russia will latch onto it and it will get like $100 million or something.
I wouldn’t give up all hope just yet. It’s definitely not doing as well as we might have hoped in theaters, but because the boxoffice has been in such a slump over the last year, the real money comes in through DVD sales. Due to rising ticket prices and other reasons, people just aren’t going to movie theaters as often as they used to, and prefer to wait until a movie’s DVD release. If we keep up the good word of mouth we may see a significant shift once Serenity comes out on DVD.
-The Talent
Even though I am a huge Sci-Fi fan (nerd), I had never heard of Firefly. I don’t have cable and initially thought that is why I hadn’t heard of it — They really screwed up at Fox. I netflixed the first 2 DVD’s of the season. I have made it through the 6th episode with my boys who are 12 and 15 and we love it. This is like getting to see a new Star Trek series without the weekly wait or commercials. So cool. We are planning to watch them all and then see the movie. It makes me sad that the movie is having the same problem finding an audience as the series did. There is a huge audience out there starving for this stuff. But how to reach themโ. hmmm.
Damn Reevers
Craig,
If your girlfriend doesn’t like Serenity, maybe you should talk to Jayne. He could hook ya up with a girl named Vera.
Since I alternate my time living under a rock, and inside of a cave, I have never heard of this movie. But the trailer hooked me good. I MUST see it!
But we just moved to TX and we don’t have a babysitter yet. Any IMAO-heads in Austin who know of a good babysitter?
