Quick Question – UPDATED 5-4-08 10:45pm CDT

Does anyone know the name of the WE font?

The shape of the “l” seems to be its most distinctive feature.
If I’m going to make fun of these idiots, I’m going to need this font to do it right.
Trebuchet MS bold (bottom) is very close, but not quite it:

I’ll settle for that if I have to, but an exact match would be better.
UPDATE 5-4-08 10:45pm CDT – if anyone has used font creator software, would it be possible to reverse-engineer the font using the samples from the WE front page? They show about 20 letters.

  1. It’s not Bosis Medium. I tried it, and it’s still off by about as much as Trebuchet. The font they use has a circular “o”. Also notice the squattiness in “a” and “s”, how far the tail of the “e” comes up, the gap size on the “c”, lack of serif on the “i”, and how the letters are very close together.

  2. After answering a bajillion questions, Identifont narrowed it down to 30 fonts for me. None of them look right.
Gore’s a wasteful idiot, I’m guessing he splurged for some graphic art studio to make him a custom one-off.

  3. Granted this is my morning ritual of reading IMAO shortly after I wake up…so I haven’t had time to research it…I have about 5gb worth of different fonts. I will get back to you as soon as I pull my sample sheets…don’t ask how I have so many either…

  4. #4, it must be normal because I just got my Harvey email and signed up, and have the same urge to shower.
I still don’t know how they are going to (carbon) credit our sign-ups so that Harvey gets his WeLeader shirt though.
Now I know why hippies always hang out in groups: it’s kinda fun taking on a cause! Can’t wait for the counter-protest.

  5. The font tool I used allowed me to cut and paste into a square for each letter. So it seems as though you could do it fairly easily, if you had a font you were copying, and the program I used was shareware for 30 days as well. I think you could get 20 letters done in 30 days.

  6. Well, Euphemia is close, but not quite right. The vertical part of the small ‘t’ above the crossbar is not as tall in Euphemia as in the wacko font. Also, the small ‘c’ is more closed in the wacko font, and the dot on the ‘i’ is slightly larger. The kerning is also slightly different.
    Master Shake:

the source shows the nav bar text as just text in html link syntax. I looked at the style sheets referenced, but didn’t see any font names that matched this font.

The source shows that the nav bar is made up of elements that have graphics as part of their default display. The text elements in the links are there for older or non-compliant browsers. If you look in the CSS, you’ll find ‘logo’, ‘navA’, ‘navB’, etc. with graphic URIs specified.
FWIW, here’s the image from their site (with text in black) with Euphemia UCAS on top (in red text) for comparison.

  7. I’m still looking through my collection…Its rather large and on an OLDer computer that doesn’t like me making it think…Though I have to agree with #31…since you’re making fun of the libs, making fun of their font would seem appropriate also.
