What this truly demonstrates is the importance of “right” thinking judges on the high court. So vote accordingly.

I heard the good news when I got to work and opened the vast internets.
I have to say that I’m a little disappointed. When I heard that Scalia was writing the opinion I expected a free M-16 and free ammo.
It is a victory, but it will not last as we all know. Obama is beating McCain by double digits, according to the most recent polls I looked at. With Obama in office, you can expect Justice Scalia (conservative 70+ year old) and Justice Kennedy (Semi-conservative 70+ year old) to be replaced with two far-left justices that will rule that President Obama has the abilities of a dictator.
Good times ahead folks.
I should follow up with an explanation.
There are right now 3 liberal justices, Souter, Brewer, and Ginsburg (turns 65 within two years) and the conservative justices, Thomas, Scalia, Alito, and Robert, with Kennedy as the swing vote, but he is more usually on the conservative side in my opinion, but he prevents the Court from overruling Roe v. Wade.
Additionally, 65 years old is when a justice can retire with full pay, which is about $212,000/year.
That means at least three justices are going to retire next term (I could explain the logic, but it is unnecessary). Usually, a justice serves on the court for about 20 years; Roberts is in his 40s, so he might be there for over 35 years.
CONCLUSION: The next President of the US will determine whether or not the Court becomes a liberal court with no respect for the constitution or a conservative court, which will do what is right.
McCain might have always voted with us, but he is socially conservative and pro-life. He WILL appoint conservative pro-life justices. Obama is far-left, so he will appoint far-left justices, probably his Palestinian lawyer buddies from Chicago.
Conservatives must get up and fight like only we can!
Um… Gallup has McCain and Obama dead even, Phil… and since any TRULY conservative nominee would be beating the teeth off of that Halfrican… those numbers lead me to believe that the conservative contingent is still witholding its unabashed support from Juan Mexicain.
I did not see this Gallup poll; I will do some research into this topic when I have time, but the last time I check the polls, which was two days ago, Obama was leading McCain by double digits.
Regardless, you make my point for me. Conservatives are withholding their support for McCain, which is why he is behind. We MUST get behind him though or otherwise, the court will become a far-left bastion like never before and we will not get another chance at changing the structure of the court for way over a decade. This is the most important time for conservatives, if not because we think McCain will win the war in Iraq, if not because we think McCain will decrease taxes, etc. then because we KNOW he will appoint conservative justices; if there is one thing not one person in this country can question, it is John McCain’s avid support for the pro-life movement; all his votes in Congress have been pro-life, etc.
Therefore, conservatives must think not about whether McCain has some liberal tendencies that we disagree with, but rather that voting for him means we are voting for a conservative court.
This is at best a brief avoision (it’s a word; ask Kent Brockman!) of what I fear will happen, which is a judicial decree that the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States is unconstitutional. 5-4 is not a victory, it’s a stay of execution. I have no faith in either candidate that this will be amended.

First, I would like to state that I also celebrated with a trip to the range today.
Second, I’m not so sure we will go another decade without a civil war/revolution, so one bad choice or another may not even matter at this point.
Third, why wasn’t this decision a slam dunk rather than a 5-4 split?

I’m with you there. I don’t think that running to Mac-the-knife-in-the-back-of-conservatives is the way to preserve or improve a conservative margin. I’m not an R or a D, I’m one of those L’s (mostly). I don’t think we will salvage anything by voting for a perceived lesser (marginally) of two evils. That still leaves us with evil. Salvaging the American spirit requires that we re-read and take to heart the document that set in motion the birth of our nation. The Declaration of Independence holds the key to changing hearts and minds about going along to get along. Does there need to be an armed revolt? No. Not necessarily. Do we need to demand compliance with the Constitution? Abso-freakin’-lutely! There is little about our current government that really complies with it. We the People are sovereign in and of ourselves, yet there is strength in numbers, so we stand together. We no longer have Lincoln’s government of the people, by the people, for the people. We should all be standing in the streets and demanding a “Do Over!”
I trust John McCain to nominate conservative constitutional scholars to the bench. I also believe in the Easter Bunny and drink a twelve-pack of Mickeys BigMouth before posting. Don’t kid yourself. That RINO would willy nilly nominate CAIR’s house council to SCOTUS in an effort to corner the crucial jihadist-American vote.
All of the crap we are dealing with in the Middle East can be traced to the last time America made a guy from John McCain’s school president. Jimmy Carter was a complete disaster for our country and the world. The next guy from USNA ran for a third party, and handed the election to the libtards. Thank you Ross Perot. Guys that graduated from USNA are all bat-shit nuts. We are so screwed.
It’s not that we won, it’s that we didn’t lose. The DC law was beyond ridiculous to begin with and should never have been introduced. Why aren’t our guys introducing laws that strike down all of the ridiculous gun laws to make libs scramble for a change?
I do not have much time to respond, but here we go:
1) McCain is a know pro-life candidate as all legislation he has ever voted for was pro-life. Hence, he would appoint conservative justices.
2) Why was it not a slam dunk decision? There are 4 liberal justices and 4 conservative justices who vote accordingly. There is also one justice who is in the center; he is the swing vote and whoever he sides with, wins.
Hence, obviously, the 4 liberals voted for the DC ban, while the 4 conservatives voted against it. As far as the swing vote, Kennedy, he voted with us.
3) Kennedy, Scalia (conservative), Thomas (conservative) will be retiring during our next president’s term. Additionally, Ginsburg (liberal), and prob Brewer (liberal) will be resigning as well.
4) The President appoints; McCain would appoint conservative justices.
5) After McCain would be done, such a decision would have been 7-2 as there would be 7 conservative justices. If Obama is elected, we would have lost 2-7
If Fred Thompson were a SCOTUS Justice, the vote could have been 8-1 against him & his vote would still trump the other 8!
Seriously though, it is disturbing that 4 of the SCOTUS Justices voted AGAINST rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Which to me on the face of it is a direct violation of their oath to office they took when appointed. Grounds for impeachment, maybe?
While this ruling is (somewhat) good, by that I mean it leaves a lot open to debate, we must not get lazy. The fight must continue regardless of who is in office. Lets keep the momentum growing: write your Senat-whores & less-than-Representatives repeatedly, and do not relent! Those congress-critters must know exactly where we stand; we can beat this if we work at it!

I have to agree with HCG on this. I do not trust Mac to do any such thing. And as for why it was not a slam dunk; the answer is that we as Americans have not enforced the rules on our elected officials. We let them make these dumb ass laws, rather than shoving their faces in a copy of the Constitution, then slaming their heads on the table before kicking their sorry asses out the door! Mac is not our savior any more than BO is the libtard savior.

I find this immensely apropos. These POSs swore to uphold the Constitution, are the TOP law rulers in the nation, and they wipe their derrieres with the document at every opportunity. I don’t completely agree with the Libertarian stance on the war, and believe it would be a poor choice to withdraw, but Bob Barr will likely get my vote. It’s a lie to say we have no choice. It is also a lie perpetrated by both big parties that a vote for a third party candidate is wasted. A vote cast for the lesser of two evils is wasted, yet they want to scare people into doing just that time and again. Will I ever agree with my chosen candidate fully? Not likely. Neither will I vote for someone I believe to be a piss poor choice to keep another piss poor choice from winning. There will be a huge amount of cleanup to do regardless of which of these two ascends the throne. I do believe there are enough Americans who will only be pushed a little farther before the reigns are snatched from the hands of the current “ruling class.”

I did qualify my “No” with a “Not necessarily.” I see the dust clouds on the horizon. Believe me. I think there is a slim chance of avoiding open armed revolt or civil war, but it gets thinner as the days go by.
I just have to wonder if I will have to face off against my sons across the battle field (two in the Army). Hopefully, they will have sense enough to choose the side fighting for freedom not oppression. I hope they will know when to refuse an order and be able to get away with their lives.
This is a solemn subject for me. I know our government will not relent of its own accord. They are a den of thieves with a murderous streak.
If I could live out the rest of my life having never taken the life of a countryman, I would be happy. That hinges, of course, on not having to watch my country die in the process. I served 11 years of my younger days as a Marine. I will still give my life, or take another, to breathe new life into Lady Liberty and the nation she stands watch over.
Whether we stand shoulder to shoulder, or back to back in her defense and the defense of true freedom, we will have fought the good fight.
Let’s hope the spirit of Dan Daley lives on in the patriots of today and tomorrow.

The BATF and FBI may allow themselves to act as tools of whoever’s in power at the moment, (Waco, Ruby Ridge) but The Army, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard and National Guard turn against the people in favor of the politicians? Once the court makes a decision, establishing a precedent, it takes decades to reverse due to the inertia of the system, regardless of how the makeup of the court itself changes. It took a civil war to reverse the Dredd-Scot decision. Prohibition wasn’t a court decision, it was an ammendment, and although it was almost immediately obvious that it was a screw-up, it still took many years to repeal. Good or bad, it doesn’t change quickly, so we have a breathing space. If the crime rate in DC drops by 20 percent in the next year, that’ll be a strong argument for the repeal of other gun restrictions. Support the NRA if you can’t support the Republicans. They aren’t just playing defense, they’re going for the throat! Charleton Heston is still My president!
