Pay for Hollywood’s Opinions?

So Green Zone, a $130 million movie about how the Iraq war is wrong and a plot by neocons, was a box office flop this past weekend. Who could have predicted that? You’d think the American people would feel they haven’t heard enough arguments against the Iraq war and would be clamoring to pay $10 and hear from Hollywood actors and directors on the subject.

Really, when are actors and such going to figure out they’re the last people we want to hear from on any subject beyond where to score good blow? Just dance for us, monkeys!

  1. Hollywood actors and actresses long ago convinced themselves that they really are the people that they pretend to be for a living, when in reality they’re some overpaid children who still play make-pretend for a living while other people watch. People are only going to pay to watch other people play make pretend if it’s entertaining and gives them a release from reality…they’re not going to watch other people playing make pretend preach politics to them, and they’re certainly not going to pay for the privilege.

As you pointed out so succinctly, Frank, watching a monkey dance may be entertaining, however, I really don’t care what the monkey thinks about political events.

  2. You know the real reason Green Zone flopped? Evil plot by Neocons.

But seriously, as Ann Coulter says, Hollywood celebs hate anything that takes attention away them. Whether it’s Iraq, Haiti, AIDs, Katrina, you name it. The George Clooney Haiti All-Star Special, Sean Penn’s Katrina Boat Rescue Adventure, Susan Sarandon’s Abort-A-Thon speeches, they’re all just pleas to put the cameras back on them.

  3. regarding Tom Hanks and his racism / asian comments about WW2……

….. I am conservative and I bet I have diddled more Asian woman than he has!! I am definitely equal opportunity in that department.

  4. Amen to that. I haven’t seen a movie since I was 18-19 that I wanted to pay money for. Even the slant in the documentaries as gone way over the top.

This doesn’t hold true for movies like The Green Beret with John Wayne though

  5. AMERICANS: LEARN YOUR HISTORY!!! There is a reason why, in the majority of ancient cultures around the world, actors and musicians were considered among the lowest members of society. They think with their emotions and cannot handle rational thought. They are usually quite good at pretending to think, however.

  6. As a musician, I can vouch for Tommy’s aspersions observations. The only thing more amazing than the amount of brainwashed knee-jerk reaction from musicians and actors is the fact that they really think they’re thinking for themselves.

Don’t get me started on dancers.

  7. In concordance with Tommy (comment 11)’s comment… I remember many TV talk shows/semi-documentaries over the years where one actor or comedian or whatever would mention to Jack or Johnny that in the olden days actors had to have their own hotels, etc., because show people weren’t deemed fit to be with the regular folks. And everyone on the panel would tsk tsk how terrible that was. It’s looking like the regular folks of the olden days were right.
