The Week in Doug

From the audio files:

1) “…You don’t want to go into the voting booth and be forced to hold your nose. I read your emails. I see your calls. You’re looking for a candidate, like a marriage partner. A candidate in whom you have zero doubt…”

2) “…What happens if capitalism fails?…The simple fact of the matter is that capitalism – the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness – this is the most successful system of any sort – politically, economically – that man has ever created…”

3) “…Of all the egregious things that this bunch [of liberals] do, their goal – to convert our schools into indoctrination centers for the left – is possibly the worst. They contaminate and poison the minds of our children against us. You see the evidence of that in these Wall Street characters…”

4) “…A politician is someone who will tell you anything you want to hear to get your vote… A leader will tell you what is best for the country, even if it hurts your feelings…”

More audio clips here.

And for those who would rather read than listen, gems-a-plenty:

1) “Do you for one minute think that Herman Cain would surround himself with the sort of incompetent cabinet that Obama has?”

2) “It’s time for conservatives to talk about the ‘struggles.’ It’s time for conservatives to talk about things in a way that the left has talked about them – with passion, as activists.”

3) “These liberals and Democrats believe, as a religion, that a larger government, a more powerful government, a more controlling government is the primary means that will secure the realization of what they believe.”

4) “You’ve got Romney out there saying things that could have come out of Obama’s mouth. He doesn’t talk about junking the tax system, he doesn’t talk about dismantling the EPA. He doesn’t talk about anything that’s bold. He likes to tinker with the status quo.”

5) “Imagine if the Catholic Bishops had said ‘we’re going to take the $19 million and instead of spending it on stopping human trafficking, we’re going to use it to distribute free condoms.’ I guarantee Obama would make sure they had the money.”

6) “Obama keeps talking about sanctions against Iran. What are we going to threaten them with? Are we going to send them Obamacare?”

7) “The Iranians are not worried about this man-child Obama. They’re not worried that we have an adult, or mature, or significant violent response to their plot. They know the Community-Organizer-in-Chief won’t do that. The man-child in the White House says ‘come, let us all reason together, then we’ll grovel to you, and then I’ll bow to you.'”

8) “This Iranian scandal is just like Fast and Furious: arming our enemies with the hope that out of that they can gain some political advantage from the deaths that would occur.”

9) “Take Romney’s answers apart and distill them down to their bare essence and what are you left with? You’re left with just a lot of smooth answers. You’re left with putting ivy on a bad house to make it look good.”

10) “With 999, Herman Cain is saying ‘think boldly, don’t just reengineer the status-quo junk that we’ve got.’ I love that about him, and I think he’ll bring that kind of thinking to all kinds of areas, not just taxation.”

And that last is why I support Cain. He’s not a timid tinkerer seeking to be a slightly less expensive version of Obama. He’s Dr. House. He wants to cure the disease of liberalism, not just treat the symptoms.

  1. But like all good medicine: kill or cure.

Like Dr. House, Cain wants to cure the disease of liberalism – even if it kills them they all go insanely jump off a cliff.

    Nah, he wouldn’t say that.

    But I would.

  2. Again we have the media picking candidates for the GOP. Last time it was McCain, this time it’s supposed to be Romney.

Romney reminds me of Bush, not in his debate style because he can actually speak vs making ook-ook noises, rather the Romneys are a political family like the Bushes and, just like them, go-along types with little principle. George Romney (Mitt’s dad) was governor of Michigan and responsible for the institution of the state income tax and “greatly expanded the size of state government” (Wiki). As we have seen with the Bushes, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Herman has the heart of a lion but I wonder about how easily he seems to be led in interviews (yes, I know about the interview where he diced O’Donnell but that environment was blatantly hostile) . Like all pols, even former businessmen, he wants affirmation and it remains to be seen how he will handle things on a daily basis.

Another thing is that no one knows if he has skeletons yet. The other candidates are pretty much known quantities.
