It’s Not a Racial Quota, It’s a Numerical Minimum Residency Standard

HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan on why HUD is now “monitoring diversity” in America’s neighborhoods:

“Unfortunately, in too many of our hardest hit communities, no matter how hard a child or her parents work, the life chances of that child, even her lifespan, is determined by the zip code she grows up in. This is simply wrong.”

Ya know, Shaun, given the accuracy of your first sentence, I couldn’t agree more with that last one.

  1. “Monitoring diversity” ?

    Extracted from neighborhood observer’s notes:

    “He’s different. Good…”

    “She’s different. Good…”

    “He’s the same. Bad!”

    “She’s the same. Bad!”

“Whoa! There’s a lotta bad diversity here.”

  2. I am a nimby, when it comes to democrats.

My commute to work goes through all sorts of diverse neighborhoods. Why just last week I saw a golfer with normal attire.

My neighborhood is diverse, the guy up the street drives a Dodge. We try not to make too much fun of him.

I have a lawn jockey, does that count?

  3. Well, I wasn’t born within the reserved zip code of Buckingham Palace, so I never got the benefits appertaining thereto.

Is Shauna saying this is not only wrong, but that some remedy should be coming my way?

    I’m all ears, Shauna.

[Hey, in that case maybe I am related to Prince Charles.]

Anyway, back to Shaun’s point, I agree that my life chances were better than Trayvon’s, but that’s because of the culture I was raised in — which knows no — repeat, no — zip code boundaries, nor any other kind.

I’d bet that my life chances were better than most of the crowned heads of Europe throughout history

“I’d bet that my life chances were better than most of the crowned heads of Europe throughout history”

for those of us who hope to ever win another straight line of the day, that’s a bug not a feature. šŸ™‚

  5. That is why everyone should lie on government forms. White people should always check the “black” box. Then when congressional districts get re-gerrymandered based on race and when the HUD decides to rebalance America, your neighborhood will already have “enough”. It’s not as if the word “race” means anything in a provable sense anyway.
