I’ve never actually played Settlers, but I have played other overly complicated strategy games before. Not sure the idea of “fun” was actually involved anywhere in the process.

I’ve never actually played Settlers, but I have played other overly complicated strategy games before. Not sure the idea of “fun” was actually involved anywhere in the process.
Settlers sounds a lot more complex than it actually is. My ex-wife and I introduced it to several friends over the years and all of them picked it right up…. and about 90% of them went and bought their own copy of the game the following day too.
I play Catan with my 10 year old son. I find it fairly straightforward.
For recreation, I prefer games where there’s enough luck involved where I don’t feel like losing is a character flaw.
I hate Scrabble.
And Boggle is even worse
In 1985, I played a strategy baseball game with a fellow baseball fan while we were deployed in the Med/IO. It was pretty cool. Very realistic. Wish I remembered what it was called.

Settlers is not that bad. It’s fun
Only board game I ever liked was Strip Twister in college.
