Friday Night Open Thread: Do People Still Use Cash?
I had an interesting interaction with a young nephew. We were talking about cultural changes, and he tossed off a comment, as an example, as if it were self-evident:
“It’s like how no one uses cash anymore.”
I said that I do, which was awkward, as he didn’t know how to react to me anymore. He didn’t understand me, and I didn’t understand his generation.
I just don’t want my credit or debit card info given to every gas station, McDonald’s, or hooker. Does that make me weird?

Friday Night Open Thread: I Don’t Like Contacts, Either
In the GQ interview, she admits to needing glasses but not wearing them as much as she should, and that she doesn’t wear contacts because she fears putting things in her eyes.
“So I have to wear glasses, and I don’t wear contacts, which I probably should, but I have a fear of putting things in my eye, which I’m trying to get over. So I’m constantly either wearing my glasses or my eyes are so strained and red, because they’re just constantly not being able to see.”

Disagreement over how many eggs chickens lay ends in shooting, arrests in Florida
actionnewsjax.com | November 06, 2025 | Cox Media GroupPolice in Port St. Lucie, Florida, were called to a bar after a disagreement over chickens led to shots being fired and several arrests.
WPTV said it happened at about 2:48 a.m. on Nov. 4 in a bar’s parking lot after the business had closed for the night. “There was a conversation about how many, I kid you not, how many eggs a chicken can lay. And that conversation got a little heated, and as it went out into the parking lot, the conversation continued, and the shooter became agitated, became paranoid,” Sgt. Dominick Mesiti said.
Three of the four people involved knew each other and had, with the fourth person, been drinking together. Police said they were all drunk to varying degrees.
Police said once they went outside, the fourth man, Peter Riera, “became paranoid and agitated,” after smoking marijuana in the parking lot, and accused the three others, two men and a woman, of trying to “con” him, WPEC reported. But witnesses said the trio did not. At one point, police said Riera pulled out a gun and fired four shots at the three other people, WPTV reported. No one was hurt.
They were trying to “con” him? “Here’s the other leg — pullet.”
The KFC “magic pullet” assassination theory.
That man was seeing red. Rhode Island red.
He then got in his Mini Coop and drove off.

It would be helpful if “double” was spelled “dubble” and “triple” was spelled “trippple.”
.
In most cases, “probable” should be spelled “pro-babble.”
.
“Dominoes” should be called “dlllllllls,” so you could italicize the initial “d” and see what happens.
.
I hate the parliamentary term “cloture.”
If it means “closure,” why not just say “closure”?
If it doesn’t, it sounds too much like “closure,” and they should find a different word.

Over $2B California Solar Plant Built To Last, Now Closing Over Inefficiency
Daily Caller | 9/24/25 | Hailey GomezThe partially taxpayer-funded Ivanpah Solar Power Facility in California’s Mojave Desert is set to shut down in 2026 due to inefficiency in generating solar energy, according to the New York Post.
The $2.2 billion plant, which features three 459-foot towers, was greenlit in 2010 and completed in 2014. According to the New York Post the closure stems from the site being “outpaced by solar photovoltaic technology” and proving both inefficient and costly. The shutter of the site comes more than a decade ahead of its original 2039 end date, according to the Associated Press.
Speculation about Ivanpah’s early closure began in January, when Pacific Gas & Electric announced an agreement with the plant’s owners to terminate its contracts.
“Ivanpah Solar was built when developers were investing in many different types of clean energy. The goal was to find efficient and affordable technologies to reduce the need for greenhouse gas-emitting fossil fuels,” PG&E wrote in a January press statement.
…
Funds for the massive plant partially came from former President Barack Obama’s Department of Energy, which in 2011 issued $1.6 billion in three federal loan guarantees under former Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz. At the 2014 opening, Moniz touted federal support for the project, calling it “a shining example” of America’s leadership in solar energy.
Moniz can’t buy everything, it’s true.
