A co-worker of mine says he saw this on a t-shirt, and, being that a lot of what I do is digital engineer (not here, obviously), I found it pretty funny:
There are only 10 types of people in this world: those who understand binary and those who don’t.
If you can’t count to thirty-two on one hand, you probably won’t get this.
UPDATE: Here’s the link to that t-shirt. Wait a second; why am I linking to other t-shirts? Don’t be a geek; but my t-shirt.
Also, in the same vein (vain? vane?), here’s another geek t-shirt I think I remember once hearing about:
100 bottles of beer on the wall. 100 bottles of beer. You take one down, pass it around, FF bottles of beer on the wall…

Yep
Are you going to rename your top ten lists the “Top 00001010 ways to…”? Because that would be really, really cool.
Im serious, it would.
“Top 0A List” would be cooler.
Man, that would rock!
Uh, Frank, I may be missing something, but you CAN’T count to 32 on one hand, you can only count to 31… 16+8+4+2+1=31, and that’s all 5 fingers… have the muckadoos gotten to you?
Aw, hex.
Brian,
Just use no fingers up to mean 32. Geez…
I saw a t-shirt that had the imaginary number symbol i with a “don’t” sign on it. Right below it said ‘keep it real’
True geek story. Some geek friends and I were at a bar, and one guy started counting in binary on his fingers.
A slightly cooler guy said, “hey [slightly less cool guy], what’s 132?”
Oh, and slightly cooler guy was also well known for his softball shirt. We got to pick our own 2-digit number for the team, and he picked “FF”
On the Simpsons episode where Lisa joins Mensa, Comic Book Guy had a shirt that said:
C:/Dos
C:/Dos/Run
Run/Dos/Run
it’d be geekier if it went from 100 to 11 bottles of beer, just cause the geeks would have very little beer my way.
Sign from Futurama (which I now have on DVD):
10 HOME
20 SWEET
30 GOTO 10
Don’t forget the robot church:
10 SIN
20 GOTO HELL
By the way– one of the best IRC quotes from bash.org (go there if you don’t mind the next hour of your life being completely wasted– hit the “Top 50-100” links):

Holy crap, there are dorks everywhere… Actually, I had a buddy in college who was a physics/electrical engineering double major with a t-shirt that said “What part of (big ass equation I couldn’t possible transcribe) don’t you understand?”
Frank, if God hadn’t meant for us to use and understand binary numbers why did he give us 10 hands (with A fingers), 10 eyes, 10 ears, 10 feet (with A toes) and more importantly 10 testicles?
Bwah-hah-ha-ha-ha-ha ….
“Sign from Futurama (which I now have on DVD)”
Season 3 comes to the U.S. in March. Everybody buy it!
I own and occasionally use an honest-to-God slide rule.
Chris,
Everyone buy it so they put it back on the air like Family Guy (which I also own).
Phil,
I had a graphing calculator at college. I also had extra batteries in my backpack as a backup. I then had one of my grandfather’s old sliderules in case all else failed.
Silly geeks, the answer is 42.
Rob, I’ve seen that shirt before, and I believe it was an equation relating energy and the various parameters of an electromagnetic wave. Some friends and I will soon be selling t-shirts at our school that say
EDU>>die matlab
This is the shirt I want.
I wore one at the place I sue to work (and had a sticker on my laptop) that said “Bow before me for I am root”.
Some people didn’t quite get that until I looked at some of thier code on my system and fixed it for them 🙂 (after they complained that my system was broken and wouldn’t believe me that it was their code not working).
I also have one that states “I read your e-mail” but since I worked at a doe/dod govt lab at the time it wasn’t worn to work, some of the security guys didn’t have that good of a sense of humor.
I thought it was 31 on one hand?
Dear Frank…hhhhuuuuunnhhhhhhh? Left brain hurts now. Bad Frank. Must go back outside and stare at BIG orange disk in sky…again!
there’s no place like 127.0.0.1
My personal favorite (on account of I’m a Tolkien geek): “Do not meddle in the afairs of sys admins, for they are subtle and quick to anger.”
Big Dog, I want that blogging shirt.
FF isn’t 99 in hex, 63 in hex is 99 in decimal
Holloween is Christmas, because Oct31 = Dec25.
“Everyone buy it so they put it back on the air like Family Guy (which I also own).”
My thinking exactly. In fact, everybody should buy extra copies for all of their friends, loved ones, and that wierd guy that’s always at the mall. As an added bonus, I don’t think Al Gore is in Season 3.
To quote Zapp Brannigan, “I find the most erotic part of a woman is the boobies.”
Actually Zapp didn’t say that, he wrote it down for Kif to say it. My mistake.
Dan,
100 = 256
FF = 255
Mythilt,
?
Frank, think radixially. (radical, I know.)
My husband Brian once wrote me a love poem in Java. I think that tops your geekness.
Passion++;
hln
Frank,
I realized that like 15 minutes after I posted it and got around to thinking about it again…apparently I need to brush up on my computer engineering skills again
man…i wish i was a geek
My favorite (engineering) geek joke.
Anybody can make a bridge that stands
It takes an engineer to make a bridge that barely stands.
Time for a chemistry quote: ” If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the precipitate.” How we all laughed.
Also reminds me of putting up a slide in front of some telecoms nerds where I’d inadvertently put a small “m” instead of a big “M”, meaning a milli-something instead of a mega-something. Those bastards slapped their thighs til the blood ran. Unfortunately I’d left the safety on.
Veeshir,
Awesome quote. Writing that one down.
A friend told me this one right after 9/11:
rm -r /bin/laden
Hmm, so far:
rm -r /bin/laden
rm: cannot remove `/bin/laden’: Permission denied
And this was how the new king of blogs was born
