Empathy or Justice

Obama said this about what he’s looking for in a judicial pick:

“I view that quality of empathy, of understanding and identifying with peoples hopes and struggles as an essential ingredient for arriving at just decisions and outcomes.”

Holy crap. Obviously, someone who probably has never read the Constitution would have no ideas of the qualities needed to interpret it. My ultimate pick for the Supreme Court would be a robot programmed with nothing but the Constitution. It would have no empathy, and it would destroy with extreme prejudice (using either it’s laser eyes or steel robot claws) anything that is not mentioned in the Constitution.

Boy would that think rampage on DC. Ooh, I should give it gatling guns for arms!

Here’s Fred Thompson (he’s my friend) on whether empathy is a needed quality for a Supreme Court Justice:

  1. 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
    2. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
    3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

must insert “Liberals are not humans”

  2. Frank, this constitution robot of yours… Could it actually enforce the 10th Amendment?? Like barging into the Senate or House chambers and rescinding laws that violate it and tasering offenders?

Let’s have nine of them – all Constitutional “Benders.”

  3. #9 IH8socialists, a great capitalistic idea. Put cameras on the robots and sell pay-per-view hippy punching events!

Advertisement: Sunday! Sunday! the world hippy punching chanmpionship! Tree hugger hippy versus teree killing al gore vs hippy punching robot! Don’t miss it, watch al gore scream like a woman when a tree is planted to hold in all that green house gas. See the hippy squeal as the robot breaks his nose. See the robot clap as al gore and hippy bleed! Don’t yo dare miss it! Sunday! Sunday!

  4. Plentyobailouts that would be awesome! I’d pay to see a robot fight Al Gore. I can see it now the robot using the hippie punch then doing the hippie stomp on his stupid hippie GlowBull Heating commie lying head.

  5. Maybe we could get those National Guardsmen from Kent State to program the robots? I think they know a thing or two about that.

Coincidentally, the Kent State shootings were Monday, May 4th, 1970. Creepy!

[It’s a creepy coincidence that you read of the Kent State anniversary and then thought to mention it? Do you know what coincidence is? -Ed.]

  6. Empathy is just a psycho-babble word. The only ‘Empaths’ are in science fiction novels/comics/movies. If we are going the science fiction route, we would be better off having a ‘Pre-Cog’ selected to the court. For he/she would know ahead of time the outcome of events, and motives of the plaintiffs, and the other Judges. Surely this would better serve justice.

  7. The obamessiah isn’t just guilty of Presidential Malpractice…

A lawyer like the obamessiah with so little a grasp of the concept of the Rule of Law is also guilty of legal malpractice. (Of course, this is only to be expected of a product of affirmative action at Harvard, the U of C, and the Illinois Bar.)
